Odyssey Scam Mission - Really? This is low

Oh, it only gets better!

So I go to load the game and I assume because I quit while I was like 80km from the landing spot that I am not able to land at.... Now my game can't load because I am in a location that is not supported by my version of the game! This is rich. What a cluster.

It does give the option to "move to a safe location". Hopefully that is somewhere close and not utterly stupid....

Final update: So the safe location ended up being 52 Ls from the nav beacon. And I was going to "jettison" the cargo in space above the mission target... I guess Ill just crap them into the sun.

They should massively up the payouts for these things … you know, there would be your standard missions from the station boards, fine, 5,10,25 million … but every now and then, some shady character out in the black would be like “psst, can you go grab these things and stash ‘em 100LY away for me?” … and it’ll be fiddly and take a whole but worth 150 mil or something.

Agreed. Seems like a special request would be.... um??? Special. Not a randomly generated waste of time. Who comes up with stuff like that? And then someone says "what a great idea let's do it".

Ok, I'm done with my rant.

Yeah but FD have always botched mission rewards, not just these in particular.

- A->B Delivery missions pay out on cargo value primarily instead of cargo volume and distance,
which controls the difficulty of these missions

- Mining missions pay out based on value rather than volume. This is fine for market purchasable minerals (since they're basically source missions, not mining), but for mining only stuff, cheap things like Methanol Monohydrate Crystals are just as hard to get as Gold, LTDs etc.. this is more an artefact of mining in general still being botched, but impacts mining missions nonetheless

- megaship interaction missions are simply much more fiddly.

- passenger missions don't factor cabin class anywhere near as much as they should.

- anarchy mission templates are completely busted, in particular hijack missions and smuggling

- somewhat inversely, massacres in general are just, well, busted. Too much to write here.

- let's not even get started on Odyssey missions

- and let's even more not go near other professions in general, like space- organic tissue sampling.

A question, does the tissue sampling problem only affects thargoids or all space organisms? (like those space jellyfish)
Only Thargoids, afaict. There's two potential causes that i can think of, and neither would be applicable to jellyfish.

If thargoid tissue sampling worked 100% of the time, the income from it would be a decent rate compared to most (reasonable) money spinners... a bit less but enough to actually make a career out of it.... the coalsack station will give ~300-500k per sample, depending on the type.

But space jellyfish... you're lucky to get 10k per sample, and it's much more effort to get them (owing to the distances you need to get them). I once pulled in 300t and came back in a day of playing and got about 1m credits from it....

(Ideally, instead of credits, it would be non- monetary rewards for collecting them)

2. The items were on land and my corvette does not have a Scarab. I had collector limpets and actually managed to fenagle them to pick up the four items. Most of them (limpets) just crashed into the planet surface. That was annoying but I learned it can be done.
Have you tried turning the ship belly-up, so that the limpets shoot out upwards? It helps with some guardian sites. I never tried picking up surface cargo with them.

It says that I need to have ODYSSEY to land at this location!!!!
Ouch. That is harsh. You'd need to sub-contract the delivery out to another Odyssey Cmdr ;)

I had a similar random mission message during the recent SG, the details on where to deliver the mission items are only given after you have acquired them. Mission abandoned and items sold at the nearest black market. (Elite Dangerous : Horizons version)

I guess Ill just crap them into the sun.

Remember the fail on scan slave smuggling robigo missions? It was the.. second? goldrush the game ever had. Seriously the best content elite has ever provided. Took a few weeks to learn and they hadn't turned off ship progression yet so 20 million credits actually meant something. They should have kept a tally of how many slaves were murdered by being dropped into a sun during 2016.

That wasn't even considering the ~40 hours you needed before that to learn the game then have enough money for an asp.

As a player community dev, I'd like to see some more love for these missions as well. In addition to buffing payouts and making sure that they can be completed, could we pretty please get support for these added to the player journal? o7

It sounds like your time and resources were wasted on this mission, and it's not fair to be led on like that. :(

I should have taken a screenshot. I tried collecting them manually with my corvette but that just scraped on the planet and my shields. In the end I turned pointing away from the planet but very low trying to get the items just away from belly and not directly below the ship. I targeted them individually and was able to collect about 50% of the time. The rest of the time the poor limpets crashed and burned. And no, limpet lives don't matter.

no problem tolm. it just seems wrong and very low to do this. What other "please buy Odyssey" scams are in the game?
I know that since they PUSHED this odyssey failure on us Mining has been for crap! the background changes from "normal" to washed out almost wire frame...real AMATURE SELF-TAUGHT PROGRAMERS stuff. I have played for years (even played the actual original wire framed game way back when...but this , this rubbish they are "excited" to shovel unto us is pure 100% "cover their ass" because of Odyssey dismal failure and didn't produce a TENTH of the promised "EXCITING" advances.
BTY; If you ever watched any of the programmers and developers interviews they are ALL always "so excited" ( has to be their inner office buzz word) but tell you nothing.
