Odyssey SOLO Combat, how is it?

Well there are many SOLO players out there, and most of my mission was in OPEN where you could call in friends to support or hook up with a random CDMR.
So I wanted to know how is it to be a SOLO player and do a combat mission from zero?

When you do a SOLO mission, you need to plan a bit more than if you're in a squad/team, because when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

So how was it? from my point of view it was great, however I need to make a note here, for every good mission, one you actually can complete, there was probably 5-6
you couldn't complete, due to enemies didn't spawn in, your kills didn't registrar, the game crashed, you teleported to the other side of the planet LOL, you get my point, ALPHA!

Solo player here and struggled the first hours but I'm slowly learning the mechanincs and been able to solo a few missions now (with success) involving combat, sneaking and stealing. Even killed my first 2 skimmers yersterday and it was a really fun fight trying to hide from them on the roofs while avoiding ground troops !

Figuring out how to achieve my goal by turning on / off settlements power, atmosphere and security to reach my objective helped a lot.

Oh and disabling headtracking while on foot changed my life lol...at first I thought that the aiming of non-engineered weapons was sh*tty on purpose only to realize that first person shooter + head tracking doesn't make a good match to land shots on ennemies ;)

Normally I only do OPEN or Private group missions, however I just wanted to see how it was from the SOLO players perspective, and it's very much doable, you just need to plan a bit and be more strategical in your approach :)

I haven't tried combat in the flight suit, but I did with the mav suit and the Aphelion assault rifle for taking out shields.
The lowest rank enemies are practically harmless - I killed two of them despite forgetting to activate my shields. I even ran directly towards the second enemy at close range while killing her with my pistol. Only lost a little over half my health in the entire engagement.

In the current alpha 1 you must go the way of the ninja. Sneaking on rooftops and avoiding or ambushing targets. Playing like this it is actualy very (too) easy - brings out how dumb the AI is.

Your suit decides the way you should make combat!

Well I haven't tried a full military base yet, however yes the AI is not at the moment hard to get if you're in a marvick suit.

I recorded a video of my solo combat experience if your interested.

I've done all of the combat/espionage related missions both as a solo and team, and have had an absolute blast. This includes Threat Levels 0, 2 & 4

I took a mission to massacre some scavengers. Used only the laser machine gun and had no problem, I killed them all 5.
I really can't understand people saying it is too difficult.

Wouldn't it be great to have HALO jumping from a ship. Strafe the ground and clear targets, then boost to high altitude then jump in to finish the job. Remember the recon and bombing missions from Frontier (Elite II), those would be good too? Happy days! :)

i was initially using the hotas for all things on the ground but it was hopeless in a fight so ive now switched to standard mouse and keyboard and thats far better as i expected.

I have noticed NPCS cant get onto building roofs however they will take cover when sniped.

I have found that playing solo i can kill a couple of npcs but eventually get overwhelmed due to the weight of numbers coming at me, not just npcs but skimmers attacking as well. Defo needs some form of dynamic balancing to take into account if people playing solo or in groups. Otherwise its blocking a large number of solo players from engaging in combat and forcing them into mere stealth gameplay.

I am going to go out and buy the laser rifle as the carbine hasnt really got the punch or accuracy at more than short range.

You can do most missions in phase 1 in SOLO, however some planning is needed, run and gun isn't a solution, and do not, I repeat do not shot the skimmers :)

The issue is that some don't play FPS at all and for them it's a new kind of game type they need to learn.
True. It takes quite a bit to get smooth. My protip for those starting out and haven't played many FPS is your mouse sensitivity probably/might be too high. Try just aiming between two close targets in 1st person then ADS. By targets I mean anything like 2 points on wall, etc... If you are consistently over/under shooting targets adjust your sensitivity accordingly.

Disclaimer : I haven't played Odyssey this is just my tips for setting up FPS in general

Bonus for when the tough get going - I just literally scratched my Romancing the Stone itch as I hadn't seen that since I was a kid. Obviously that's the "jewel"

As for "you get my point, ALPHA" - Allow me a minor correction.
