Odyssey - Steam -> Frontier Launcher

Ok, I have a bit of a tricky question and hope someone might have the right answer for me.
I bought Elite Dangerous on Steam back in 2015 or so and played it via steam for a long while before migrating to the Frontier Launcher which I have used ever since. I bought Horizons via Frontier directly and so that appeared in the Launcher as expected.
Today I have been given a key for Odyssey on steam which I have redeemed and it shows up on steam account. However, I have just loaded the frontier launcher and updated and no sign of Odyssey. Do I need to install and play via steam, with odyssey before it will appear on the frontier launcher?
My steam and frontier accounts are linked.

If I understand you correctly, then you bought ED on Steam, where you received somehow (purchase? gift?) an upgrade to Odyssey. However if you bought Horizons from Frontier, then you need to buy an upgrade to Odyssey from Frontier. Linking the accounts doesn't mean you buy one upgrade, you get two. They remain separate accounts with separate Commander characters.

not strictly true if you purchased the game b4 april 2019 you are entitled to log in direct http://hosting.zaonce.net/elite/Client-Installer-DX11.exe
or bought odyssey from frontier direct too (cause that's when they had handbags at dawn)
so on that assumption you can use that to play horizons but not odyssey if bought through steam
I play all the above as I bought all direct
hopfully the steam login will be fixed by later on today any hoot methinks

You are quite wrong.

If I load up Elite Dangerous Horizons from steam, it is my commander I have been using since 2015 in the Frontier Launcher that shows up, not a new commander or even old version of my commander. And remember I never bought Horizons from Steam, I bought that from Frontier directly.

But neither the steam or frontier launchers show Odyssey.

I did dig into the steam install location and found the odyssey folder with a .exe but that will through back a message about using the launcher.

You don't have to play through steam but you need to get Odyssey from them.
Don't get confused its ED that you need to link EDH will not get you Odyssey remember even if Fev made ED the same as EDH but still have to have ED purchased to get EDH, It you got ED from frontier you can get a CD with Odyssey on it but as far as I can see you can no longer down load from frontier if you want that you will need to link through steam

Just to make sure everyone understands my current situation.

Elite Dangerous was bought from Steam in mid 2015
Horizons was bought from Frontier in late 2015
Odyssey (steam key) given to me yesterday

Load up Frontier Launcher and Odyssey not there (sort of expected)
Install Elite with Odyssey from steam to separate folder.
Load up Steam version of Elite and Odyssey is not there in the Launcher only Horizons

If I load into steam version of Horizons, my existing commander is there with all his ships etc.

As a last try, I have done a full uninstall of frontier client and steam and then resinstalling steam to see if it kicks in.

New update for you all......strap in guys
Just downloaded the Launcher from Frontier which shows as Horizons and when I went to install the game.......Odyssey shows there......
This is not the steam launcher but the Frontier Launcher o_Oo_Oo_O

And the game runs all ok.
