Odyssey the size of stand-alone game?

They have said Odyssey will be similar in scope to a game all in itself.

To me, what they have shown so far, doesn't really add up to that level of content, however we obviously haven't been told everything.

What do you suspect the devs haven't told us yet? What surprises do you think they may actually have in store? Or do you just think that they are building it up to be more than it will be?

We know there is a lot more to the settlements than what's been shown. We can get missions from them. They also mention an odyssey version of CQC. We haven't really seen the plant work and what's involved in getting samples from these. That's just the stuff that they've told us about but haven't really shown us. I'm sure there is more to come.

They said a game, probably not meaning Elite + Horizons currently. I'd be really surprised. I think it will be more substantial than Horizons at launch, but that's not really a high bar. I didn't buy Horizons until a year later, but I preordered Odyssey.

I tend to think of it overlapping what we already have- I just hope thats a good thing and not simply making foot compatible versions of existing game loops.

Will be interested in seeing where it goes.

I hope they haven't told us a substantial amount about the expansion, otherwise I'd be a little concerned. I wish they would demo the new on foot exploration stuff, though.

- More interior locations 'in space': So at a guess one or more of the following: Megaships / Installations / Carriers / Capital Ships.

Things they notably haven't denied:

- 'Thargoids in the flesh': They went out of their way to say base building from the 'leak' wasn't coming. But made no such statements about Thargs.

It all depends on where you priorities and focus are.... if I had to choose between only one option...I personally would plump for Horizons over Odyssey.. for me Elite Dangerous is and always will be.. about 'flying space ships'..... not gallivanting on foot around shops, emporia, and the wider environment..... the likes of Mass Effect went that route and their 'space ship flying' is/was somewhat minimalist. With Odyssey; Frontier are going to try to do both (?well), and I do hope they succeed. I for one will be mainly found happily sat in, and flying, one of my many space ships! o7

I suspect they haven't told us about the inclusion of:
1. The Panther Clipper
2. Five new SRV variants
3. Ship Interiors
4. Fleet Carrier command decks
5. Full FPS VR support

Whatever happens some will be happy and some will be said and the forum will be alive with this sound of whining because the moaners always moan the loudest.
