Odyssey & The Weather

Any word on the weather patterns on the atmospheric worlds in Odyssey?

I know they are not full ELW atmos and Im not expecting rain & snow or Glanet cutting to some dude doing the space weather but even Mars has sand storms and the like. Im just wondering if we will be getting anything like that
NO and know that it's NO....bcuz frontier!?

We have this... Which doesn't rule out any weather at all, but personally I don't think there will be any, not at launch anyway.

Is there going to be any weather system affecting players and/or their ships on planets, such as thunderstorms or dust storms?

Luke Betterton:
At launch, Odyssey will allow players to land in thin atmospheres which won’t have aggressive weather fronts of this kind, but we would love to bring those to Elite Dangerous: Odyssey in the future.

Well that's clear.

And the future is not Soon (tm).

Maybe in two / three years ? If we get planets with powerful atmosphere, and flora and fauna ?

Well, tenuous atmospheres... they usually lack the 'balls' to have a vibrant weather system. On Neptune, in the upper layers of its atmosphere, wind speeds up to 1200 km/h have been observed. But the atmosphere is so thin up there, a human being wouldn't probably even feel it. Mars has an atmospheric pressure more than a 1000 times lower than on Earth and can barely hold any moist. So 'weather' there basically means changes in temperature, and a sandstorm here or there. Exceptions confirm the rule of course, there are global cataclysmic storms on Mars, but those are pretty rare.

I sure hope we ain't gonna see the NMS weather :poop: , or whatever you want to call it.

Clouds and sandstorms would be nice in the denser end of the tenuous, but it is probably quite tricky if one wants to do them properly (that is, not like NMS, then again it's a fantasy game) and have stuff like seasonal variance, sandstorms visible from the orbit, accumulation of frost etc. Pretty complex stuff for relatively small details - on the other hand if FDev is ever actually going to have denser atmospheres in the game they need to think about these aspects.

Agreed. These effect are already to be seen in the form of condensation in craters on the bigger sized planets.

Having seen their feeds about plate tectonics and vulcanism, I hope and think there will be signs to see the first feeble steps towards something resembling a 'weather' system. But as always, happiness in games is all about diminishing expectations :)
