Odyssey Unplayable

For the past week playing Odyssey in a battle zone is so slow and stuttery it's no longer playable. Just walking around is so jittery you don't know what direction you are facing. Reloading hangs and aiming is a joke. I have tested everying at my end including 2 gaming rigs, but they are the same. Download speed is 150 and upload is 30. The rest of Elite is fine.

High or low textures it does not matter
it is unplayable
ground combat zone 20 - 30 fps massive jerks
entering buildings and reloading weapons causes massive problems

Yes, even going into camera mode now while in supercruise and panning around to certain sections of the ship causes frames to drop.

But have you seen the new Orca ship kit?! Don’t forget there’s a 10% discount of Saud Kruger paint jobs right now! (Except that’s broken at the moment so it’s not actually discounted).

Suggestion - Upgrade your Commodore 64 to something built this century.

Works fine for me. Get the same performance in Odyssey as in Horizon (as in never under 90), no matter what Im doing or where Im doing it.
That obviously dont help you at all, but just shows how random games and computer part setups are

Just for sake of sanity, all graphics maxed out and in 4k res.;
MSI MEG Z590 ACE
i9-10900k
rtx 3080ti
64gb Corsair Dominator 3600mhz
OS: Samsung 980pro 1tb
Steam: Samsung 980pro 2tb

Interesting. Even people with 3090s have reported getting single digit FPS at ground CZs.

You’d be the first person I’ve heard of so far that even gets constant 60 FPS absolutely everywhere in EDO while running at 4K, let alone above 90… and even the same performance as Horizons… wow! 😳

Other than the added '0 FPS around landing' I've been finding the FPS better and been playing the CG CZ in Open without frame-rate issues (lots of issues around completion of the CZ, and the occasional de-sync, but that seems more likely the usual network issues).

So weird that some are getting better, others are having to give up - would be interesting if fdev could explain some of this, because I was kinda hoping we'd be at least all on the same trajectory 🤔

I suspect what your saying is that in space you get > 90 fps both in odyssey and horizons, but can you actually give a number for max FPS i.e. without any max FPS setting, in each case?
I also have 'reasonable' FPS in space in Odyssey, but it's still down from around 130 to about 70, so not much more than half. In my case it could be that I'm limited by the 4 core i7 from 2013, but it would still mean that Odyssey is asking more of it than Horizons.

If you are getting >90 fps in a ground CZ then, well, not sure what to add ..

I tried new CZ ship dogfight scenario over settlement and it was terrible. Every time I got close to settlement there was terrible stutter. Not fun at all.

Interesting, indeed. Did you stream something or a video uploaded with FPS counter on screen? It's certainly easier to believe that when I see it.

It could be interesting to compare some benchmarks. Here's my result from a non-overclocked system with UserBenchmark
UserBenchmark is very untrustworthy and unrepresentative source. They are known to manipulate results and favor certain vendors heavily.

Would you care to check GPU and CPU core load and let us know, if your system has to work around twice as much to reach your claimed performance metrics?

I´ve seen single digits in space stations in all the updates with a Ryzen 7 3700x and a rtx 3070. A relog solves for a while, until the fps start dropping again. It´s very random. The range of my fps in stations are from 95/100 to 5/15 lol

I'm running a GTX 1050 Ti running on low and there are now only a few problems with performance ;-
  1. Dropping into an on-foot CZ, there's about a minute of 5 fps before it catches up and then it runs at approximately 30-40fps.
  2. Planetary bases on the concourse looking at the bar, the fps drops to 12 to 18.
  3. Larger Planetary bases with active mining lasers drop the fps to approximately 20 fps.
Everything else is above 30 (which personally, I find good enough to play)

out of interest, do you know what graphics setting you were running Horizons?
I'm only running a 750Ti and I have basically gone from running and enjoying horizons with decent graphics, to being forced to run on low settings in Odyssey and only getting single digit FPS in places. I'm currently trying to work out how best to upgrade my PC, a part of me was hoping a 1050Ti would at least get me into the realm of being able to enjoy the game again, but running on low graphics doesn't exactly seem like much of an improvement to what I'm getting now on half the GPU.

I had everything on ultra at 60fps at 1980X1080 on Horizons. It's a shame that I've had to drop down to low settings because I really miss the pretty space stuff (even though in space I'm still getting 60 fps in Odyssey).

Cheers, yeah that's what I thought, I was running Horizons on High/ultra without much issue (I doubt I was actually getting ultra) I hope the optimisations required for console happen, so I can at least have a chance at enjoying the game again. the graphical downgrade has really ruined my enthusiasm for it.
