After giving Odyssey a 1.5 year break, the old Elite Dangerous itch was coming back too strong. I didn't switch back to Horizons, I wanted to be able to walk in the bar, do the organic plant exploration, and so on. After spending so much money for high end PC, Nvidia RTX 3090, Valve Index VR, cockpit, peripherals, Voice packs, etc. I was surely disappointed to walk away from ED one and half years ago to allow Odyssey to further 'cook'.
Last week of testing showed none of the issues that upset me has been resolved, especially since my biggest concern was VR, which is no longer supported. But lighting still a pain (sunlight through cockpit, dark planets, etc.), performance on flight (stutter leaving SC mode), and a host of others besides the VR headaches. It performed better in star stations and settlements on foot, but other than that? For VR, it is still very immersion breaking, where it counts most for me.
I cannot stay away from Elite Dangerous any longer. I fell in love with Horizons when I started, so back to version 3.8 Horizons I go. I love the space flight experience, couldn't care about FPS, and VR is where ED had shown it excelled above everything else.
I just hope Horizons 3.8 will stick around, and seeing it supports consoles and Odyssey 4.0 does not, it might be around as long as Odyssey is. But there is just nothing like my experience I had in Elite Dangerous and 1.5 years is a long enough break. I just can't wait any longer for Odyssey to be updated in a fashion it would please me and I don't think they will ever do VR again.
I really did miss this forum as well, there is such a different class of more matured people here than that I experienced in MMOs.
Off to the transition to Horizons 3.8 and pick up my space career where I left off. o7 to everyone.
