Newcomer / Intro Odyssey Upgrade Questions

I’m giving consideration to upgrading my ED to Odyssey. Most all of my play is exploration, with a small amount of trading or material gathering, when needed. I’m all engineered up, as far as I want, and spend most of my time in the black, on my own. If I upgrade, can I bypass all the FPS, settlement, biological stuff (might come back to this after it matures A LOT more than it is) and just continue to explore and enjoy the new operational UI visuals at the expense of the planet degradation? My understanding is I can just launch Horizons if I’m unhappy with how things are going in Odyssey. I guess I’m asking if I “have to” jump through a bunch of FSP type hoops to continue to explore. Should I desire to get set up for exobiology exploration later can I buy everything I might need in Colonia. Thanks!!

Planets look excellent in EDO, and exploration is improved with more things to see and do. Atmospheres make for awesome views. You don’t have to do any FPS stuff unless you choose to. it’s And the UI is better too. I’d never go back to EDH.

The UI is nicer, but you will get that (and the better planets) when Horizons gets re-merged with Odyssey (hopefully some time this year). At that point the only advantage for the OP is the extra landable planets - which are nice, but marginal whether it is worthwhile just for that.

DONT DO IT!!
If your an explorer like me its going to stop you from exploring all the time as you WILL get sucked into those scavenging missions.
You WILL get hooked into upgrading those suits (Arty +Jump + run + Night Vision = wow).
Odyssey is really addictive, hell i even do those foot mission shooty shooty games and i hate FPS!

So seriously it will ruin your exploration time. (But in a good way).

What a weird question. Why would you think you'd be forced into FPS to explore? It's not like you're going to to get attacked by aliens or plants or alien plants while you're exploring. The Ody is all about FPS loonies have really spread their gospel.

Odd. Every time FPS is mentioned in this thread, the 1st thing that comes to my mind is frames per second, not first person shooter.

Call it collateral damage...

When opening up Horizons for your first time, you go through a basic flight dynamics walk through and a combat shootemup weapons and combat drill. You don't get a pilots license until you nail a bandit. What use is weapons training such as that to a commander that wishes to just go exploring? Yet no exploring without killing bandit first. What is a weird question is why much of the dialog here has a maturity level that seldom passes beyond middle school. A greatfull thank you to those who read, understood and responded in a helpfull manner to the inquiry. Always a crap shoot stopping by here.

Not wishing to dilute your actual point but one can skip the tutorial (Skip Training) in Horizons / base game and still get your "pilots licence". Not that a new player would know that of course.

When Odyssey first launched there was a bug in the tutorial mission which meant it was impossible to finish. I only have a vague recollection of that tutorial, but that would seem to suggest that the tutorial is skippable

But I tend to agree with what Para Handy was saying. It seems a little expensive just for a few more prettier planets
