Odyssey video was a complete shambles.

Ship lands right beside base. Dev team talk all dramatic, talking stealth and keeping out of sight whilst doddling through the main entrance of a compound full of blind skimmers and guards on patrol right there in front of them. Is this Metal Gear Solid 1 all over again?

"Huh, who's foot prints are these?!" as you stand giving the boy the bird from 3 feet away.

You'd think the guards would smell you coming since your characters walk like they all poo'd their punts.

Seriously, why does it look so bad and why are you still actively showing Pre-Alpha post date of original release? Can't you admit you're well behind schedule and that the game update will launch below par for quality? It looks shambolic. The AI and clunky looking combat looks dire. Segregating the player base again, right after bringing about some parity with the horizons update being made available to all players is a bit of a back step. I guess it is what it is, but the quality of what we're being shown after years of development behind a boastful 100+ man team is just outright insulting when we have content we want fully fleshed out in the game already that has all but been forgotten about.

Anyways, blah blah. 😋

no it wasn't

It looked amazing, didn't it? It really had us on the edge of our seats! 🙄

We have a company that under delivered previous content which was paid for by Horizons DLC buyers and took years to flesh out, yet you think this scripted video looking bad doesn't spell out how bad the game will be when it releases with P2P disconnects and flaky AI?

Horizons trailer made skimmers and base raids look awesome. The reality was a laggy, broken, shoddy release with bland combat. Tell me I'm wrong?

Do you expect Odyssey will launch any better given what they've shown us so far and their obsession with Pre-Alpha at this stage in development?

I've seen the ship AI go from braindead to godlike to braindead again in less than a week. Issues with that don't bother me, it's the threat that some middle management cod will decide that braindead is the best option.

Looking forward to the P2P disconnects. When players start breaking the netcode it gets fixed, just like they started fixing it when people broke it with record attendance of CG's, Guardian ruins, Distant worlds, Colonia, etc...

well that we could pretty much anticipate pre-pre-alpha.

i wager to even anticipate that there will be some strong incentives (ship upgrades/bgs influence/etc) for horizons players conveniently locked away in oddysey.

yyyyep. it's been like this since around 2016. i've always fantasized that the original team just collapsed after the exhausting stunt to bring out planetary landings, and after that the whole company restructuring hit, and they have been mostly running around like chicken and implementing stupid filler content since.

Complete shambles would be T-posing, falling through the ground, getting killed by the door to the power center, getting killed by the entry to the ship, invisible grenades, grenades that stuck to your hand, spaghetti men, ship blowing away in the wind.

It wasn't particularly exciting and it was a bit of a cheesy script worthy of a certain 1990s space "epic" I'll grant you.

in one thing: that trailer was made by artists. this demo was (apparently) thrown together by community managers (which by definition need no other skill than being able ot talk in a politically correct fashion).

so, not really comparable material. though i agree with you, it sucks big time.

You seem to have had some traumatic experiences with Steam Early Access. I suggest you seek counseling for your own health and betterment.

You do know for a game like ED, a 100+ man team is pretty small. RDR2 had over 1000 devs work on it.

The animations were a little bit rough, but not something that should be difficult to fix. The combat looked okay to me and the AI was not too bad as they were meant to be the weakest NPCs you can encounter, so don't expect them to be good.

As to segregating the player base, this is all due to the age rating of the expansion.

Also remember that his was an early build and still pre-alpha. They said on the stream that things had improved dramatically since that build, so I'm not that concerned at the moment or anywhere close to being insulted. I thought they did a reasonable job of doing the pre-alpha footage were many things were probably not working properly.

Also as explained, that was a tiny snippet of what is coming and there were also different ways to complete the objective.
