Odyssey Won't Install, Freezes Entire Computer

I can't be the only person with this problem, but haven't had a lot of luck finding threads on it.

So basically, my installation experience has gone something like this:

1. Click "Install" on Odyssey from the launcher
2. Within 5 minutes, it locks up Windows entirely. Numpad still works, but most programs stop responding, Windows itself is 100% unresponsive. Can't even kill things in Task Manager
3. Hard restart to clear it

I've gone through this loop no less than 10 times now, and nothing seems to fix it. I've double-checked every driver, I've checked drive health, I've tweaked every setting the launcher has. What I don't understand is the base game and/or Horizons doesn't have this issue, I can run that fine. No other program locks up my system like this. Unsurprisingly, support hasn't gotten back to me.

I'm completely at a loss. This is the most confounding tech issue I've ever had with a game. Hoping someone has some ideas, I'm out of them.
