Horizons Oh, come on! Quit it with the candy lookin’ paint jobs and sell me somethin’ for the cockpit!

This is officially a rant. I ain’t actually as mad as I sound in the title, but I strongly believe I got a point.

So, I got my scrawny behind tightly glued to the pilot seat, constantly staring at a dash board that looks like the view of the passenger seat in a cheap car (in any of the ships, that is). I’ll tell you what: space madness ain’t nothin’ compared to the cockpit madness I’ve started to experience.

So I go to the store and…I find a huge load of exterior paints, that make my ship look like a lollipop, yet only an insignificant number of…bobbleheads. Really? Bobbleheads? What am I? A 2 year old?
And they’re the ONLY stuff I can add to my cockpit. I bought one just to fight the excruciating feeling of loneliness.

Guys…newsflash: we’re all playin’ the game from INSIDE the cockpit. It ain’t like I can shove my head out the window and check out my cool paint job.

Now, I can see it’s probably easier to make paint jobs, but please…PLEASE show some love to the cockpits too.

And since we’re getting’ so many paint jobs options, I really don’t understand why we’re not bein’ sold some decals too. Blows my mind.

I agree with you, what i was thinking was with every paint Job you get an update to the Cockpit collors to..., to much work for Elite? Not an expert but how much time can a paint Job take to be added in game lol

One of my pet peeves.
The HUD of every ship has been made by the same manufacturer.
Really?

I'd say laziness.

A pinup might be good choice for the Cockpit, esp. for those long flights out into black beyond :) , nothing too raunchy or detailed as we do have younger players too consider but far more realistic than some odd ball bobble head. Some random clutter, a grubby cup or two, minor junk, loose flight plan notes, a half eaten doughnut or ( would they still have doughnuts? ) Just to make your home from home a little more lived in and less antiseptic and sterile. it could even move around if internal gravity fails / grav plates are damaged during combat requiring a tidy up at next docking when you repair. A personalised Registry Number for your ships based on your Commander name and start date..

Bad news, dude. There is no artificial gravity in Elite, so anything not fastened down would float around the cockpit and potentially bash you in the back of the head under acceleration. According to canon there are no grav plates or intertial dampers or any of that other standard sci-fi stuff. You wear mag-boots to keep you fastened to the deck in your ship, and that's why all the big stations rotate.

If they would ever give us OFFICIAL HUD COLOR CUSTOMIZATION, we could at least choose a different HUD color scheme for each of our ships, which would at least give them a little bit of personality between one another.

But I agree.... The fact that every cockpit interior looks identical to the next with a few minor changes here and there is kind of lame. I forgave them this "easy way out" approach all this time, but now that the game is heading into its third year, I think its time we start seeing some serious focus on ship cockpit interiors and giving the inside the same attention paid to the outside!

Lets face it folks! We see the inside of our ships WAY MORE than we ever do the outside!

P.S. All that said... I was really pleased to see that we FINALLY have our first FEDERAL CORVETTE PAINT-JOB PACK!! Just bought it to show my support for more upgrades for my favorite ship in the game! :D

This I'd really like. Too bad the next quoted fella is right.

As I said: right. Buuut...the pinup would work. Also any other clutter that could be nailed down. I was thinkin' about one of them special bottles, but then they'd have to also make a modification to the helmet, otherwise you'd literally kill yourself over a shot of whiskey.

Now, if we were to take cockpit design further (you know...third year and all that), we could have stuff appearing inside the cockpit according to what modules we mount on the ship. I mean...we're mounting stuff that sometimes costs as much as the ship's initial purchase price. A little passive monitor or something like that wouldn't hurt my eyes.

So do you have a big magnet on urass  to keep you in your pilot seat? And no, there are no seat belts harnesses in the cockpits.

If they'd at least vary the HUD between the different ship manufacturers, if each individual ship couldn't be done, that would be a lot better than it is at the moment.

I have it on good authority that carpeting my conda bridge is ill advised due to the ESD concerns.....I told that nutter I fly tens of thousands of light years into the black looking for things that want to kill me and we are talking about my inevitable foot dragging to zap my SLF pilots?

Edit: apparently using the word for deep 60s style carpet is censored lol

I totally agree on this, why do the Imperial ships have the same HUD design, when they clearly had alot of ideas how to build ships that was different! I think it would be faboulous to have a module that you could exchange that gave you different HUD designs. So if you did not like what they did to the HUD of the ship you bought, go and hunt down the replacement module for a new look of your HUD. Just move the existing stuff around, would be a great start to make the ships appear more different.

Good point :) regarding HUD design re IMP, FED and Alliance; Whilst there may be an underlying Standard HUD, as you add or change, swop out upgrade modules perhaps it could update your HUD design to reflect the change. However at this point time though I doubt its realistic to ask for it just yet. But could be tabled for future iterations.

Many of the paint jobs are rather pre-school, for want of a better choice of words.

The bobble heads. Ok nice gimmik but really something a bit more Dangerous like a global compass thingy with sol as 'north' and the alphabet pack is just so out of place in ED.

This search kind of sums it up

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=c...ved=0ahUKEwiR6_SO-JvQAhVkDcAKHUzWAKYQ_AUIBygC

But it's down to the player to bu what they like. So it'd be nice to see some more dark future looking fonts and designs added. How about starting off with an alphabet pack using the ED font? And fake burn adn blast damage paint jobs for commanders who want their ship to havea bit of a weathered / battle worn look.
