Oh my actual lord. The Galaxy Map is killing me!

Hi Cmdrs.

I am just getting used to VR and it’s great, but boy oh boy, navigating the Map is a nightmare. so, I bought a cheap gaming controller to use for just the map, but even setting that thing up is worse than my trying to knit (07blindfolded whilst suspended from a tree branch in a high wind.

Any tips gratefully received.

I've Been Playing this game in VR for years now, And I had the same problem. If you had an x52 Pro HOTAS I could help you setup your key binds to work perfectly in the galaxy map.

X56 here and yup the same..it's fab. Zooming in out turning around pivoting on axis so on so forth all intuitive. Love the galmap. Took me 2 weeks to set up lol. That seems long ago now.

Each to their own but let's see.
Joystick I use soley not the throttle.
Pitch is forwards backwards
Yaw is turn left or right on the spot.
Stick left or right moves or slides left or right obviously.
Mini stick pivots axis.
Buttons .. trigger to select.
Assign a hat to move mode select left or right via left/right hat. up hat to main menu. down hat to back out of system map. Zoom in and out on another hat.
Works for me

I’ll give that a try Dragsham, thanks.

one issue I had today, was my mouse cursor, which was there yesterday, so I could at least highlight items on either menu, was completely missing, although the mouse was fine in other menus.

I don't use the mouse it's jumpy buggy. Only time I use mouse is to work the drop down menu on the left to change search criteria or type in a system etc. Even then I use the mode switches to move around.
The mouse is jerky and sporadic at best.
But may I say. I do love the vr galmap. It's just incredible what you can do with it.
System map too. Easily configured.

I've never had a problem with the galaxy map, but I'm a DS4 junky from the getgo (I actually prefer it to the HOTAS). Now the system map, on the other hand...

I find that not assigning anything for tilt axis makes the galaxy map much more manageable in VR.
I have been out in the black and haven't missed tilt in galaxy map.
I use joystick for xy translation, twist for rotate.
The rocker on the back of the throttle for zoom in and out
And a couple of buttons on the side of the throttle for z translation.
I think the setup makes sense and is quite intuitive.
I can now target things pretty quickly and enjoy the Star Trek stella cartography experience!

I use an Xbox one controller for navigating the galaxy map and the system map, works really well for me (I use an X52 for flight stuff).

I kinda thought I had posted something before on this, and sure enough.. found this old post...
