Almost did something similar last night in my FdL. Was lifting off the pad in a starport, getting a little sleepy. For some reason thought the deploy hardpoints button was the landing gear button (in two completely different places on my HOTAS). Thank goodness I caught myself soon enough.

Sorry to hear about your loss, OP. Rebuys are bad enough, but losing a crewmate is the worst.
