General / Off-Topic Oh, you want a stand to go with that $5k Monitor ...

If it's 6061 I've got loads. (Might be 7075 though, don't have any of that.)

Some Apple engineering is really good. I was given a dead G5 ages ago and I'm quite impressed with how well designed the alloy case is, particularly compared to the pressed steel rubbish of most PCs. Was thinking of mounting my PC in it but kinda like the existing case.
Very solid as well - I used it as a stand for a Zodiac aircraft while one of it's undercarriage legs were removed.

But they fail so hard in other ways. Bendy phones; phones that don't connect if you hold them like everyone holds a phone; rubbish electrics if you've ever watched Louis Rossmann along with an aggressive anti-repair policy; laptops with only one usb port (buy this hub to use your device normally); removing headphone jacks because of 'courage' and this?
The emperor has been running about stark bollok naked for a while now.

The good design is long gone, though.
Watch Louis Rossmann on Youtube. Their laptops in particular are just garbage when comes to engineering. Gluing two pieces of aluminium together right in front of a heat vent, display ribbon cable that is too short to fold properly and breaks over time, the lowest quality components and solder that cracks even without heat-cycling, chips being fastened to the board with a piece of rubber because the solder balls are rubbish (so-called "refurbishing"),...
In L.R.'s own words: The only thing on a MacBook that never blows is a fuse. :)

I don't get it. It's just a couple of bits of metal stuck together.
With just the angle grinder and a welder I could knock something like that up in an afternoon for a mere fraction of the cost.
This is the brand that you pay. It's stupid but it's like that.
