Newcomer / Intro ok finally did it.....bad bad.....or stupid stupid.....or ...

I got my Sidey blown up again. I did not have money to bring back outfitting so I clicked off those buttons and just got my original sidey, or so I t ought, to just start over. well that did not work so well. I got sidey back but without any cargo holds, since that is what I had at time of loss. Is there no way to start the game over from scratch? if there is, how? and if there is not, what do I do now. It cost 1000cr to buy a e2 cargo(cap 2) which would not leave any money to buy goods. fine mess I got myself in this time. sorry to bother this group so much. was hoping to get past all the bother but... help if you can and certainly feel free to flame. I do deserve it this time.

If you want to, you can start again from scratch by selecting "Clear Save" under Options in the Main Menu. That will put you back in the loaned Sidey with 1000CR and a clean slate in a Starter system (probably the same that you first started form).

Sidenote:

It's perfectly normal to paint yourself into corners a few times while experimenting. If you hadn't, you wouldn't be trying hard enough, so don't feel bad :D

Clear that save, and start again. You'll know when you're ready for your "real" commander.

One available option would be to take bulletin board missions that are informational and don't require cargo space. It would be a slow process but possible.

ok looks like restart. I sold the weapons and the scanner to get 8 cap cargo so restart looks like it. thx for response and for no deserved flaming. lol this board is kinder to old beginners than other boards I have been on. nice!

Why don't you just pop in the nearest Nav Beacon / RES and blow some wanted NPCs? I used to make 100k minimum in 1 hour doing these using starter ship, you can then buy a hauler if you want to trade. I don't see how a trading/mining/doing mission in a Sidewinder can be faster.

I tried that in the inhabited systems where I started from scratch yesterday, but the nav beacon was being camped by quite a few other commanders and finding prey wasn't easy. :)

The other option if you have zero cash is exploring. If you have the basic discovery scanner, you can collect 1000 credits from an unexplored system just by "pinging" the system after jumping in and targeting the sun for a bit to get the data. Repeat for a few unknown systems and you have your seed money back.

I’d recommend just doing bulletin board missions at the start.
Start with the one’s that just ask you to deliver cargo somewhere as you don’t need any cash yourself. You can quickly earn 50K just doing these for an hour. It also has the added advantage of improving your reputation with local factions and allows you to get to know the local neighborhood (every time you visit a station look at the commodities market even if you are not trading yet, it will help you find a decent trade route later).
After you build up some cash, look for the missions that ask you to go fetch something. It will say something like “tea purchased here”. These missions pays twice the galactic average so as long as you know where to find them (after my last point getting to know the area you should) and have the cash to purchase them first, it’s a great little money maker.
After that you should be up and running.

And don’t worry about dying in a sidewinder, that’s what they’re for. Wait until you meet the curse of the Asp.

When it's really bad, find the delivery missions with no cargo requirements (and hope you can make the jumps). I've moved from the negatives to millions successfully without restarting.

Easy starters:

  • Simple delivery/courier missions
  • Bounty hunting (w/mission bonuses) - NAV beacon and USS beacons in SC

Trading and trade missions can be challenging when you start, due to the hassle of finding goods. I found everything difficult for a while, then things started flowing.
