Ok...I admit...I need help

I didn't really want to ask for help with this, I figured it was just a matter of practice. I am absolutely HORRIBLE at this game thus far. Every time I try to swat down an AI, they end up jumping away. Being so new, I am nowhere near good enough to take down players. Does anyone have any tips for bringing down the AI's BEFORE they jump away, so I can finally earn som f-ing credits? Or maybe, other credit earning ideas?

Are you trying to earn money in the federation distress or combat zones? The NPCs in those scenarios should stick around.

How about trading for money? When you've made 2k and a bit, you can get a 2nd pulse laser and try bounty hunting again.

Bear in mind that you're testing ..
Is the AI jumping away a bug/ should they be mass-locked?

As a game tactic; Target their engines?

In a few cases they should have been mass-locked (Inside a gas-giants rings) but most of the time they leave the rings and warp out. No bug :).

To hit the engines do I target the exhaust ports on the back, or the area on the body of the craft where the engines rest?

Yeah, I'm aware that I am a tester, that's exactly why I'm not raging. I'm very happy to help FD with this test.

I have been trying to kill the NPC "pirates" in the mining zones, as there appear to be A LOT of them.

You have to close in tight on those suckers. Use your boost and don't initially open fire until you are really close (less than 1000 meters). Try switching off flight assist and turning hard with a little reverse thrust in the blue 'sweet zone' until the target is in front then engage flight assist and yaw/pitch him into the cross hair. Also, look out for canisters - the pirates go for those first so you can use them like bait.

I like the extraction zone rings, but it is hard to earn decent money. The federation distress signal has much easier pay outs of 500 credits per kill (if there is any around).

Thanks a lot! I will try that instead. I had noticed that the extraction ring payouts were VERY small (1-2 hundred credits)

As of yet, can we mine asteroids?

Not that I know of (you need a mining laser which I don't think is in the game yet)

You can pirate the clean side-winders, you might want a cargo scanner to see what they are carrying then target the cargo hatch. Have to admit, I've not done that since Alpha 3. The Anacondas carry so much cargo you'll need a bigger ship.

When you start don't buy anything.
Fly to the Fed distress call.
Join the feds.
Kill all sidewiders you can.
Pick your targets and don't bite off more than you can chew.
If you die just get the free sidewinder.
Rinse, wash, repeat.
You're not loosing anything and every kill gets you cash and practice.

You can purchase new weapons but I would hold off until you are good enough at the game to be able to get a couple of kills every time you visit the Fed distress zone. If not you could potentially just loose everything if you die and can't afford the insurance or aren't earning enough to cover the insurance when you die multiple times.
