Ok I give....what do I do after I meet a thargoid?

SO I fitted an ASP out for speed, installed the scanner and 1 MC and 1 missile launcher. Also took a research limpet. Found the non human USS outside of MAIA as promised. Got close enough to scan it and it started attacking. I got away but it was not very engaging......I landed a couple of missiles on it but obviously it thought I was a flea....what should I be doing besides running for my life? :)

I'd probably suggest a different ship, or join a wing. If you're not a skilled combat pilot, you will be obliterated.

Z...

If you're going for thargoid tissue samples just stay away from its weapons fire (easily done with fast ship). But if you're just interested in scanning it, scan it while its scanning you and dont move. If it does indeed attack you even if you havn't taken a tissue sample just escape the mass lock and high wake out of the system. An asp isnt the smartest choice if you're intending to go for tissue samples, their weapons fire negates shields so it would be best to use a ship with a really powerful hull.

Their weapons only partly negate shields. They do still protect you from a lion's share of damage. But you are right, you are going to want a better ship for poking a Thargoid with.

I only run low grade shields because i perfer being peaceful with them (and im more of an explorer than a fighter), i've only angered a thargoid once by accidently bumping into it because my ship wouldnt slow down fast enough, my hull was at 20% after 10 seconds of them firing on me, my shields did barely anything (still had full charge on them when my hull was at 10%). Not risking thargoid combat either, my current combat ship is my annaconda (which has a high rebuy price that i can not afford), and i dont want to lose that.

Have a combat pilot take you out for a trip on multi-crew.

I had the pleasure of meeting one of your colleagues, Robbie Junior. We conducted a joint research session by combating the Interceptors.
