OK Imps, sell me on the Clipper (for PvE piracy in particular)

I've got rank and cash available. Is a Clipper a good purchase? I like the Python's internals better, but I've already got one of those so why not try something new? How fast/manoeuvrable is it compared to the Python? Is it any good at pinching LTDs from hapless NPCs?

I will sell you on a Python for Piracy. Better shields, more hardpoints, better hardpoint convergence. DD5 fast as you need.

If you don't already know stealing LTD's from NPC's is just shield tanking, you have to shoot them just once and really quickly after Interdiction otherwise they will H-Jump out.
Then they will stay in the instance attacking you. Use Hatch Breakers and Collector limpets while shield tanking.

I started PVP Piracy in a Clipper and upgraded to a Python.

In terms of speed and maneuverability its no comparison. The Clipper can dance all over the Python in terms of agility and there are very few ships that can match the Clipper in raw speed.

Its a good bounty hunting ship I can tell you that, but I have never been a pirate so I can't help you there.

Upsides

- Relatively cheap

- VERY agile

- VERY fast

- Looks fantastic (to me at least)

- Wide open view in the cockpit for great visibility

- Power plant gives you all the power you will ever need

Downsides

- It takes a large landing pad

- Its VERY wide and that takes getting used to

- Its internals make it good at everything, but great at nothing

- The fact that it is a fairly large ship with a wide back end gives it a larger hitbox

- The placement of the large hardpoints makes it pretty annoying to use fixed weapons

But I mean if you wanna multipurpose ship with style that can haul butt then the Clipper is definitely for you.

It's really fast and maneuverable... it drifts though and takes a little getting used to.

The weapons convergence isn't so great, but gimballs fix that on the large wingtip hardpoints. When I was using two medium plasmas, sometimes I would have to level the Clipper with the other ship for both to hit... not so great on smaller ships, but if you just concentrate on one if the aiming points, you can usually connect with one... but then the large gimballs would take care of the small ships just fine.

The Clipper:

Is faster
Is more fun to fly
Looks nicer overall
Has a much better cockpit design
Sounds better
Is designed to Ram

For PVE? I loved using mine. It's the fastest thing you're going to find for its size. Sure the hardpoint positions aren't great, but it's not hard to adapt. I tended to have one Class 3 weapon set up as a fixed mount for damage and the others gimbled (or a missile).

Just try it, i have two words for you:
BOOST SOUND
I swear to Dende, those custom gutamaya seats come with dopamine injectors.

It's a fast ship and all the stuff that has already been said but ......

Using it, you are denied access to outposts because it needs a large pad (crazy, yes?) and .... worst of all .......

it doesn't have decent paint jobs [mad]

Compared to the Python, the Clipper has the best fuel scooping rate, as well as one of the favorite ships to use out at the Formidine Rift, combined with its decent jump range. The amount of cargo it can haul is also quite competitive with the Python, but the Python has no match for the insane turn rate the Clipper has. Make sure to have a bi-weave shield and lots of amour if taking it out for Combat, though. It's not meant to be a shield tanker. It is also cheaper than the Python by 50%.

You also have to get used to the weapons stuck out on the pylons, so you have to use one gimballed and one fixed beam to converge on the target. That takes some getting used to.

OP just take note all the positive Clipper attributes mentioned here have nothing to do with PVE piracy.

Remember your targets are T6, T7, T9, & T10's. Keelbacks also carry Low Temp Diamonds.
None of these ship are fast.

I think you failed to understand his intention if your sales pitch is about shields and tanking and hard points. Piracy is about stealing things and getting away; not fighting and killing targets with your "hard point conversion" and heavy weapons. Clipper is fast enough to never have to worry about hull tanking in the first place and the goal is never to destroy a ship with your "more hardpoints" either.

Get a Clipper for these jobs. More than tanky enough, one of the fastest ships in the game, and luxury.

I bought my clipper during the grind to Duke to test fly it and I just fell in love with it. The Python can't be beat for trade/rank grind, but if I ever get into piracy/smuggling I'll use the clipper for all of the reasons mentioned already.

PvE Piracy does not require you ever actually fire on a ship, merely pull them from Supercruise and shower them in Hatchbreakers.

I've done my bit of PvE Piracy in an Orca - 758 tons of Low Temp Diamonds, zero shots fired.

But as has been said, the speed and agility of the Clipper is quite impressive, and if you are the Shoot-at-them sort:

https://beta.coriolis.edcd.io/outfi...==.Aw18aQ==..EweloBhBGA2EDsAWEBTAhgcwDapDCQoA

I've used Remote Flak here as Remote Flechette are not available yet. Remote Flechette can cause module damage (crack open a cargo hatch) without having to deplete shields.

Engineer it the way you like, and it's 93 days to Montego Bay.

I've tried that and all the NPC does is fly around randomly and the cargo is going everywhere and my limpets sometimes can't keep up and blow up because of range. I've only had luck where I take out there PP and siphon from them when they are dead in the water. Even then that's a pain because sometimes they blow up when I'm trying to snipe their modules.

I like the Clipper for alot of reasons but my god the drift. Even with FA on and throttle in the blue zone, if you turn hard you will be looking at your exaust and slowed to a crawl. It is fast in a straight line but does not carry it's speed well through a turn and has mediocre acceleration at best. Sometime it takes 2 boosts to get to full speed. Drives me nuts.

Get use to the mechanics, and give a go with some Remote Flechettes. They do squat for Hull damage and decimate modules once you get use to their weird firing mechanics.
