OK, Maybe it's not as bad as I thought....

I threw up in my mouth a little when I upgraded both of my Cobra's to 4A shields, along with other A rated gear (see, I'm not as rich as some of you super-slick hotshots ;)). One is loaded out for mining, the other for salvage and combat. But I have been more closely practicing pip discipline (I used to be a multi-role guy), as well as thinking of my routes a little more carefully.

  1. Multiple metal gathering missions, and I've had no problem meeting the demand. I did get bothered once, but jumped to another system before the interdict could even happen. It was nice -- I felt more accomplished by avoiding the interdict altogether, rather than submitting to it.
  2. I got over the "multi-role" loadout that I was playing before. Two Cobra Mk IV's, one loaded out for sector jumping/combat/salvage, the other loaded out for intra-sector mining. Even if I have mining missions outside of the sector, I just move to my combat loadout and transport the good using it.
  3. I've even taken the liberty to engage a few baddies of my own volition... no problems. They have matched or only slightly exceeded my combat grade so-far, and I'm happy with their tactics at that level-match.
  4. I did take some shield hits with one interdiction, but only one ring and I was able to turn on the **** and waste him. Again, good pip management helped that. In those situations, I've even learned that maneuverability is far better than overt firepower. I'm actually interesting in trying out some missiles now.
  5. I'm more aware of my loadout at all times... prepping my loadout/firing groups before my next move. Jumping into mining rings in combat mode, and switching to mining mode when I am sure that all is clear.
  6. I'm also now more cognizant of sector security -- operating in High-Medium sectors helps to keep you safe and sound.

So, I'm running cool pristine mining runs and picking up missions in between. I've been having fun and have had no issues. I have yet to encounter a super badddy in the past 12-15 hours, but....

This doesn't invalidate my frustration over the past few days. I most certainly did encounter NPCs that wasted me within 10 seconds of engagement, or grouped super NPCs that showed up in 0 threat USS, or NPCs that just couldn't wait to get their hands on my "saweeet" 9-units of water... but when I dropped it that wasn't good enough, and so I dropped my limpets, and then 10-seconds later was dead.

The devs have announced a found bug, so that will probably do well to fix some of the problems. All-in-all, I'm very happy with the current patch, but will keep everyone posted if I encounter any OP NPC's or other anomalies (at an intolerably infrequent rate). I also pose the question -- if modules come in grades, but only A-grade will do, then what's the point? Again, it may just be a bug that's breaking this. I enjoyed my multi-role capabilities, but now I'm having just as much fun in my single-role ships... I'm more than happy to turn on you and punch you in the nose... unless I've got a ****-load of metals, then I'm more than happy to run for it and cash in and say "**** you."

As for you "If there's no video, it didn't happen" folks -- go make your own **** video.

P.S. I'm a little drunk, so if any of this came out garbled... apologies.

Happy that we do have a bit of honesty acknowledging some of these things that do really matter in deciding whether you get spaced or whether you live and fly on! Thanks vindelanos.
Mind, the only times I do get wittled down quickly (I good escape yes yes escape) is when I enter a combat zone in my lil viper and pick the wrong side, but I mean, two minutes is still made up of seconds, so I won't deny you could get blown up in seconds ;P Certainly a group of powerful enemies will do that.

The whole fact they'll attack you/ask you for such low-value goods is something I agree they should definitely work on. Only a really low-ranking combat pilot or similarly pauper-like sidewinder/cobra/adder pirate should really be scraping the bottom of the barrel for that, and I won't deny there are some bugs FD should get to work on.

Would recommend you try out missiles. Very fun. Boom.

I very much agree, each class should have a distinct advantage AND drawback like D is lighter but so far only A and D matter

All of this being said -- I've noticed that the galaxy is pretty lonely. If anyone ever wants to meet up for tips and tricks, I'd welcome some company. I may not be elite, but I'm surviving :)
