Ok need help with fss

I’ve been trying to mine in systems were there aren’t pirates,cause I’m in solo and currently don’t own gold membership.,also I used the eddb to search for mineable rings and I found one tho I currently haven’t explored it yet so I gotta use the new discovery system well I know it isn’t new I just haven’t explored sense it got updated so I need help done a bit of research and can’t seem to get a grasp on the fss feature need some advice and guidance thanks for reading

So I need to outfit a surface scanner

No, the FSS is built in, but you'll need to get a DSS (Detailed Surface Scanner) as that's what's needed to fire probes and map rings and planets.

The FSS (Full Spectrum Scanner) is the one built into your ship. As soon as you land in a system, do the 'honk' with your discovery scanner, then use the FSS to discover all the bodies in the system.

Then you need a DSS as stated above. Fire that into a ring and it should highlight any hotspots if it has any.

I've edited my post above, you do need to use the DSS to find hotpots.

I have B+RB to both open the FSS and zero the throttle, so when the full spectrum scanner opens my ship stops, as is required. DSS is on its own fire group, on the right trigger

Ya I know the honk but what all need be mapped In my buttons catergory to use fss

The honk tells you how many bodies in the System but it might not show you on the system map the sort of planets you need for mining. That is why you use the FSS, that will populate your system map. You can then see on the system map if they have icy rings, metallic or rocky, that way you can determine which one to head for to probe. So you won't find LTDs in a rocky ring, only in an ice ring.
