OK NPC Ramming OUT-OF-CONTROL At This Point, anybody home at FDev?

This NPC ramming stuff is getting out of control now. I know alot of players are getting rammed near the station by System Authority Vipers but I nearly lost a brand new Anaconda due to this crap when I landed in the Low Res to test the fit when a wanted NPC Viper with System Authority vessels on its tail rammed into me and exploded. Now suddenly I am wanted and all the System Authority guns are firing at me. I don't know how I got away in one piece but, I mean seriously, is it just me or does it seem like FDev went on vacation and left the interns in charge???

What's particularly ironic, and infuriating, is that this bug re-appeared immediately after the falling skimmers were fixed.

Yes, FD needs to fix this.

Like, yesterday.

I think MoM let the System Authorities hit the Onionhead.

Either that, or this is part of a new "Corrupt Police" AI routine. I've been scrammed and tapped a few times for the sole purpose of generating a small Fine.

It is starting to get the point where my only option is going to be to start wiping these guys out and taking the heat until the bounty dies off.

I can't believe this bug has popped up again. I Remember the first time. it was happening everywhere i went. They come at me too fast when scanning then bang.

I haven't been hit yet, but I have had a lot of near misses. Like nearly every time you leave a station. This is another of those bugs like the falling skimmers, that should have been fixed right away but they let it slide until the next big update. Last night I got so frustrated with all the bugs, I just quit for the night. I have been playing this game for over two years, and the number of bugs in this game since the last update, are really over the top.

1. Feds don't obey station speed restrictions
2. They fly across the mail slot at high speed, so you're likely to be hit now and then.
3. They give chase far beyond the no fire zone even after the tower has signed off, to scan you.
4. Because they move so fast, they do not have great control of themselves. Perhaps they need better thrusters.
5. It doesn't seem to matter if you're moving or not when they hit you, it's still a fine.

I've not had one explode by running into me yet, seems like that one was possibly moving way too fast and shields weren't raised.

They seem to fly into the station support structures any time I drop out of SC. There's always one flying right into it. I've seen them explode a couple times doing that.

I have a feeling a lot of the pew pew I see outside the station between feds and NPCs are due to poor flight mechanics. The NPCs I scan during those times have very small bounties, possibly they just incurred it after dropping out of SC.

I'm ok with pointing these out but see no reason to tack on the attacks against the developers in the process. It's an aspect of the game, it sucks sometimes, but that's what it is. If they change it, good deal. If not, that's ok too I guess.

While I can't guarantee that this will solve it for everyone, I've noticed that every time I leave a station at over 100m/s (i.e. "speeding") and I get scanned, I get near misses from the authority ships. In a couple of cases they did hit me, with the resultant fines.

If I stick to less that 100 m/s until after I get scanned, they don't seem to charge at me.

Hope this helps.

This could be a very logical explanation. I've been buzzed quite a few times near the stations but never struck. But have been rammed quite a few times elsewhere by the odd ship (usually ignored as nearly all my ships can take a strike w/o issue).

There have been a series of NPC events that seem to have come on recently, ramming is but one. Several have been noted, I have experienced the following:

Excessive chaff, expelling quantities that appear to be over ship's capacities,

More common use of SCB's,

Harder to kill,

More turn and burn from NPC's,

More of them exercising sense and waking out when facing losing odds.

A comment MoM made in the recent past about future NPC evolution may have had some teeth in it.

Only MoM knows for sure.

I look on this like I did the skimmers falling from the skies bug.

I never saw that one either. Tempest - Teacup.

it's nothing to do with speeding. It happens everywhere where an NPC will scan you. That's pirates as well as Feds. Very bad in the RES:

I lost two ships due to falling skimmers.

There's no excuse for putting off hot fixes to issues that can kill players.

Period.

I have been hit repeatedly coming out of stations, and doing less than 100m/s. What really sucks is doing 99m/s so you can get out of mass lock. You're pointed right at your destination, but you might as well be walking out of range of the station for how long it takes, and then you still get hit, and you STILL get fined. I had one jerk authority come all the way around the station (I watched him on my radar), and slam right into me. Come on, FDev. I put up with the falling skimmers because I could just do station missions. When it's a station issue, we're kind of screwed.

I think it's done on purpose. I'm guessing someone at FDev thought 'hey, players are ramming ships, why don't we program the NPCs to ram the players?'

And that's all well and good, except... The players ramming ships, are very cute and selective. I am not going to ram an anaconda with my FLD. An FAS maybe :) But AI is rubbish it cannot be that selective, so, they ram everything, from Sidewinder to Cutters.

Which suits me fine, as I'm usually sitting in a massively shielded Cutter. They ram me, they damage their shields, and I finish them off. Simples :)

Aint nobody got no time for that!

Soon as I can make it out of the grill, I pips to engines and boost, boost, boost. If something hits me... Oops ! :)

Have you noticed if you stay under the limit you get fined for blocking !

Very bad in the RES:
yeah! i'm a bit cheesed that i made a bug report about the scan 'n' ram and someone changed my report's title to something about 'ramming at stations' - i hardly ever get touched at a station, my entire complaint was based upon bounty hunting in a RES

IN A RES! - stop looking at stations and how they factor into it, and look at the NPC behaviour in general! . it's got nothing to do with stations or speed limits.

not much point me submitting bug reports if someone else can change my reported bug into a different form and completely misrepresent the issue.

FD has said that they couldn't replicate the scan and ram. But it's happened to a lot of us. I've found that it's common in high sec areas. Maybe the sec forces are a bit on edge in those systems. I have yet to be rammed in a medium or low sec system.

Perhaps someone else sees a trend like this?

I think they tried to close things up because since engineers, nobody was ever getting scanned and maybe they overdid it a bit. I noticed I've been scanned more times since 2.4 dropped than in many months, but have been having a lot more close calls also.

I am also becoming frustrated with NPC ramming outside of stations. Not only do AI seem to be entirely exempt from traffic laws and queuing systems, but system authority vessels are FREQUENTLY using excessive and dangerous manoeuvres often resulting in collisions. I'm one of the very few people in this community that obeys the speed limit, I can't imagine how many rebuy screens I would have faced by now if I didn't.

I’ve seen skimmers falling out of the sky but luckily was never hit by one.
I’ve had a few recent close calls near stations when the SA were trying to scan me. But I usually boost away so I have yet to be hit.
In Res sites I’ve had pirates graze my shields while scanning me and also get between me and my target while they try to scan me.
Personally I think cargo scanner range has been nerfed. And now NPCs have to get in close to scan and they just can’t stop in time.

Yeah, if you go too slow, they get you for blocking the entrance. If you go too fast, they ram you and fine you. If you go just the right speed, they still ram you, they still fine you.
