Ok, second problem...

I can't control the side menus in the cockpit. I can get to them, but no amount of reconfiguration (including ensuring nothing else is mapped to the arrow keys) lets me navigate through the menus. I've gone back and forth between Toggle and Hold for the UI control function to no avail. Single keys work for everything else I've tried, but I can't get around or select things in the side menus.

I am using a Logitech joystick and have an Alienware TactX keyboard. For what it's worth, SC has the same problem with not recognizing some of the keyboard commands. Strange.

Is there a way to activate the mouse cursor when you have a side menu in close control? That would seem so much easier!

Hi shooterguy :), I've not had any experience with the kit you're using, but I've also not had any problems accessing the side menus. Sorry to hear that, various people have had similar problems over the last few months with different setups, but they do get fixed.

Have you thoroughly investigated the controls menu? Pretty much every function can be bound to any key/button.

For reference, when using gamepad, I hold the B button and use the d-pad to access menus. similarly, when I tried the x52 joystick at E3, I had to hold don the pink button while moving one of the little hat thingies. However, once you've go to the menu, you should let go in order to navigate

Good luck!

This might be a silly question but, do you have the drivers and software installed for your Alienware TactX? While I am not familiar with that keyboard there are a number of gaming keyboard that will function for some games with out the software installed but just not work with others. As you are having the same problem with both games, it could be a problem with the software for that keyboard (assuming it needs some), or the drivers (might just have the stock windows drivers installed and not the correct ones).

edit: Some game keyboards require you to add specific games and make profiles for them.

There are keys you need to bind to change these side menus, when these are bound you should be able to easily control the whole system with the joystick.

A mouse can not be used to change these menus but why would you want to when you have your hand on a joystick?

Lefties work differently.

But, to the OP: Have you set up the keys to actually activate the side menus? Merely looking at them may not work (I don't recall, not having played for months), so you are better served setting the menu activation keys to, for example, number keys 1, 2 and 3. Only after you've activated a menu, can you use the menu selection keys to move around through choices.

OP, you need to set up separate keys for tab navigation left/right - this will scroll horizontally through tabs. Menu item left/right keys will NOT, that's for going left right in a particular tab itself.
Menu item up/down works as you would expect.

Personally I prefer looking at the menus to activate them. You can either set up head look mode with a controller, or use a head tracking solution, I use a "cheap *******" version using FaceTracknoIR with facial recognition and a webcam.

I wouldn't use a "hold" mode for activating menus - the game is capable of detecting key combinations, and it is just possible if you use a hold mode instead of toggle that you need to map the menu navigation keys as combinations of the hold key and your usual navigation keys.

So if you have it set up so that the UI focus mode is activated by holding down "L" key, the menu tab left key might be "L+Left Arrow" or something like that. So it is better to either use direct panel focus keys (default 1, 2 and 3) or use a toggle mode.

You get used to it, but I struggled with this at first too. I use KB+M so it may be a different default for you, but if you select the left panel (hit '1', or right panel 3, centre panel is 2, maybe twice) you should then be able to scroll left right with Q and E, down or up with W and S and select using the space bar.
