Ships Ok so the asp scout...

Yea. So I have tryed it out a few times and for some reason i just didnt like it, i think its cus its a hull focused ship, and the canopy is made of sticky back plastic.

On paper its close to the diamond back scout, so it should be great, i dont seem to loose my canopy in the diamond back nearly as often or easily. Simular shield to hull ratio, the both are nimble and have nice hardpoint placements.

I know the asp has that barn sized profile and the DB is nice and small but you get a bit more hull in the asp and the shields come back a bit quicker, so i recon you could swing it.

The main reason im trying to convince my self to give it another go is that i want a ship thats nimble and has good pitch rate and when i press boost i can controll the boost with pitch and thrust and not end up 2k away from my target (looking at you viper mk3 and ieagle). The original eagle is like this, its REALLY manuverable and has great pitch and thrusters but not too much top end so you can boost round behind your oponents and the ptich rate means you can do a full 180 in the boost and control the speed.

The problem with the eagle is.. its only got one utility slot and a tiny class 2 distributor plus the 3 small hardpoints make it only realy viable against small and medium hulls, i mean if you have all day and you picked the right utility slot you can take on bigger prey but.. i dont have all day.

I usualy fly a viper mk 3 if im going small ship as its nice i started in one and have a special place in my heart for it but the pitch is poor and the boost is hard to manage as a result.
Now i have one that pitches at 52deg/s but as a result the boost takes me to 680! So in a blink of an eye im litraly miles away. So im trying to change it up.

Every one flys a diamond back scout, and yea there great, but i like to be different.

Any one got tips. Or sugestions on a ship the handles well.. ie better than an fdl, but doesnt go to ludicrous speed when you press the boost.. or indeed does but can pitch its way out of it fast enough to be useful?

Ps no vulture thats too easy.

Im tempted to just own the eagle and deal with it or indeed stick with the viper as i can handle it in is own way, i just love the boost thing the eagle can do.

FAS? What size do you want. There's lots of options. iCourier, iEagle, FDL is a damned nice piece of kit.

How about the Imperial Courier?

LMFAO, yeah a Courier, that's nice and slow........ Although it is the best small ship in the game really.

I haven't tried a Dolphin but that may suit what you're looking for. Lemme hit Coriolis.

Edit: NVM giving up a permanent passenger slot sucks on a ship that small. FAS would be the best bet for faster than FDL handling wise but not insanely fast like a modded up Viper or Courier or Eagle.

The Courier absolutely does boost to 650 or even 740 if you want, but has probably the fastest pitch in the entire game. I find that I can set throttle to 0 and just pitch+thruster any PVE target. So if you're still in for something that does go fast but pitches just as fast take a look at something like this....

In travel mode it goes to 565 and has 26LY range - https://eddp.co/u/MxDjji78

In Hunter mode (I just swap the FSD when I get where I'm going and store the discovery scanner and FSDi unless I need them because I dont have Palin yet) it goes 627 - https://eddp.co/u/kRst9wHR

Objectively, the AspS belongs in the same box as the Cobra III and the Viper IV.

The Viper is a bit cheaper, the Cobra is a bit faster and the AspS is more agile and has more cargo space, depending on how you configure it.

I couldn't really think of anything to do with my AspS but I've ended-up just using it for all the pokey things I previously used my Cobra for.
Besides, the cockpit provides a terrific view, compared to the competition, which is quite handy.

It took me a while to find a use for mine, but I did find a use for my Asp Scout - as a Space Sweeper.

I use it when I need materials for Engineering. Find a USS, drop in, pop a collector or two, let it clean up, and off I go.
Sometimes I find some nifty cargo - collected a nice bit of Prototype Tech recently which sold for 13k each.

It has some weapons, which have come in handy to convert the occasional pirate into materials, especially in Wreckage sites, but it's not built as a fighter.

Imperial Courier.

Fast, nimble, great looks, and probably the best cockpit in the game. It's also cheaper than the Asp Scout, and probably more useful.

That's exactly what I use mine for.
It is, basically, an interstellar bin-lorry. It's the ship I use when I'm hunting USSs and planets for mat's.

It's got an SRV for surface mining, a wake-scanner for data-gathering (although it's usually offline and only gets fired-up after taking the weapons offline) and the empty class 3 slot can accept whatever else I feel like at the time.

OP, since you specifically mention that you "want a ship thats nimble and has good pitch rate and when i press boost i can controll the boost with pitch and thrust", if you have a ship you like, except for that, you can fit an A-rated engine module and engineer it (assuming you have Horizons). I've never flown an Asp Scout, but I love my Asp Explorer.

If you want to stand out from the crowd, you might want to consider the Dolphin. It's a refined ship, which I've enjoyed flying, even though my main ship is an AspX.

Humm well. The FAS has too much drift and its a medium ship.

I have a DBX for mats and surfice prospecting and i can go fom palin to the bubble in 6 jumps in it so i dont need an asp scout for that.

The courier has not got the best pitch. Its around the 55deg mark. Same as the ieagle, my crazy viper and the fdl
All these ships have good pitch but not great pitch. For example the asp scout has 61deg pitch with DDR5s that is more like it. The eagle has 71 with DD5s now thats amazing pitch. Thogh i might have a second look at the courier, i have 2 or 3 set up for racing, combat and exploration so i have plenty of parts to fiddle with.

The diamond back has one of the best flight models in the game for its class as it has good speed and pitch and acceleration. But it has become a cliche.

The vulture has a pitch rate of 62 with DDR5s so the asp scout is close to a vulture in terms of flight model as it has similar speed and pitch and acceleration.

I was hoping some one might have some tips on getting the boost speed of a ship down but keeping the pitch bonus of dirty drives. If i fatten up my viper to lower the top speed however the pitch REALY suffers. But a fat eagle not so much.

It seems some ships pitch suffers gratly from going too fast and other dont. The viper is like a lead sled when boosting same as the ieagle, you have to wait untill they slow down before you can get the pitch rate back. Not the eagle that thing can turn so fast you black out even at full throttle.

How do other people controll the insaine speed thrugh a boost so they dont end up far far away.

I think the Asp and DBX scout will probably be the last ships I buy, if ever (I did own a DBX scout for a day, but sold it-long story).

The DBS... If only its distributor weren't so awful - the class 4 thrusters always empty the distro on boost with the charge-focussed mod.

As for the Viper, clean drive tuning often raises the optimal mass value of the drives, which mitigates against the loss of maneuverability somewhat. That also addresses the outrageous speeds achieved on boost with DD tuning.

The adder! It like an eagle but has utility slots.. its lighter AND has good pitch and a low top end... good buy asp scout! Im off to the engeneers!

Yea the second i jumped into the adder. I was like wow its tight in here! But hopfully the canopy is so small it wont get shot out in 5 seconds lol.

Im drifting between engeneers with it at the moment, i love the engine sounds. I do love that it has a sun roof lol

You might also want to consider different ratings of engines and mods. The highest is not always the best, especially if too much speed is an issue.

Sometimes a D-rated drive and a dirty-drives mod is awesome. It ends up performing like a mildly-tuned class A, but with less power and weight.
