Ok that's it !! ...Is 2.1 too hard for traders - test

I have heard of all these problems that in this new patch a simple trader has zero chance to play the game ... it's ruined !

Well, even though I am playing a self imposed 'Iron-man' I am going to kit out a ship for trading/missions and see what the fuss is all about .. I'm gonna kit out a T-6, Record my findings and see if this is a game problem or user error.

I will post the video here.

I don't expect this to go one way or the other .. i have no idea if these problems are real or not ... but I'm gonna find out ..

BTW it takes me ages to record videos and upload them .. but I will.

only the truth will be shown.

Test 1

TL;DW Nothing happened at all (full T-6 with mission haulage and cargo)

Test 2 - with added Interdiction.

TL;DW - this time I DO get interdicted, I low wake away and not followed but a bit later the same ship interdicts me and I low wake to my destination - so essentially - nothing happened.

Sweet. Good luck. I'm actually hoping to see two things come from this...

1) Proof that some of the problem is poor tactics and loadouts
2) Proof that some of the problem is actual bugs

Maybe both sides will be able to get a little validation from this.

Oh - I can already tell you what'll happen: you'll be just fine as long as you high wake out w/ 4 pips to SYS and 2 to ENG while boosting away. More so if you fit shield boosters and forego a bit of cargo space for added armor or SCBs. You'll be just fine. Don't get me wrong - you'll have a tougher time than a trader in an Anaconda or Cutter, but I strongly suspect your experience will reinforce that Elite is now more Dangerous but also survivable (if players know what they're doing). Nonetheless: thank you for sinking time into this effort and posting the results.

a T-6? I used a T-7 and had to sell it cause in case you get interdicted you have no escape or the capabilities to fight back.

isn't the T-6 a weaker ship (defensive wise) ?

edit - Also don't think I am going into this little experiment blind ... I know the NPC's have improved, so my load out will be better than an unshielded garden shed .. of course I'm gonna build my ship for defense .. I have done that with any trading ship since launch .. going out without shields is daft.

also ...
Would have preferred a less click-bait title to the thread mate.

I don't think it's a click-bait title .. it's a perfectly reasonable title for the thread .. too much negativity around here these days :)

Good luck - self-IM here too so don't die ;)

Thanks .. I'm gonna try my best .. hoping the rumors AREN'T true :D

I've been doing the same thing I was doing before 2.1 and having no problems. You just have to be more respectful of the NPC's. If you don't want to fight/PvP - SUBMIT/BOOST/FD. I'm really enjoying the upgrade. Take everything on this forum with a grain of salt. I too thought it was the end of ED but I started playing and adapted. Take your time and feel your way around. Look through the forums for ideas. Elite is a journey not a destination. People cried because of Robigo being nerft. There are other Robigos with the million payouts but I don't believe you can stack them. Relax and have fun.

Considering the negativity the title leads you to think it's going to be a whinge fest .. I was most dissapointed when I clicked it - I love's me some good drama :D

Ok Got my T-6 loaded out as I would have done Pre- 2.1 .. very defensive .. cargo space isn't everything .. I'm not acquainted with any engineers so no mods on this ship ... now, I have taken into account the improved NPC's so have added a point defense and shock mines, just in case.

the biggest shield .. I would have always done that ... a large fuel scoop .. military armour (I am flying a shed after all, and these options are available to everyone) the rest is A or D class equipment and cargo space.

Time to see what happens ... :)

If I may offer some possibly obvious advice:
* clear out your mission list as some missions can result in having attackers sent after you;
* take care of any outstanding bounties for the same reason;
* select a reasonably fast ship to trade in;
* zero throttle / submit to interdiction if interdicted. You'll end up going the same direction, the interdicting ship will be at max distance, and the FSD cooldown will be minimal.

There's a good thread on trading in Type-6, -7, and -9 ships and how to equip them ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=261641&highlight=coriolis ).

Now, I mainly trade in Solo mode, because if I'm trading, I want to make money and minimize risk. I was afraid to trade in an expensive ship at first so I started out in a Clipper and had no problems at all. I did get interdicted a bit, but was always able to run away. I only had to high wake when someone was just constantly interdicting me, which happens very rarely. Now I'm running in my Cutter and am having a similarly easy time of it. I stick to high security systems. Of course, traveling between systems necessitates passing through low sec systems, but it's easy to high wake out if you get interdicted in these.

"As the Thruster Burns!"

Can Luniticisi survive the fear fraught Trade Routes?

Will he stick to his IronMan Pledge?

Will Lavian Brandy cure the interdiction blues?

Tune in next week kids. Same Elite Time. Same Elite Channel.

Whether you prove anything or not it still sounds fun.

You might check out ziljan's thread on pure trading ships (builds and escape tactics) in this forum. Some good test results and information.
