OK, Tried it but didn't like it so far

Hi,

So after waiting almost a year trying the game even though I am a Alpha backer I am sorry to say that I don't like it so much.
What does it for me is the Three speed instances. I knew it would be like this but not to such a Heavy degree that it ruins the game.

It really feels like different instances and not a seamless flowing space flight. I don't care about open multiplayer so the Tech limits due to this is crippling for me. Rather play original elite / frontier instead.

The pop-up stations when leaving SC is also horrible.

Here's to hope that FDEV will fix those issues, come Gamma 22Nov...

By 'fixing' I mean that the experience will look more seamless, maybe more akin to the capital ship battle video...

I do agree. It was advertised as seamless and so far its far from seamless.

I dont think it will ever be seamless.

But even so its not enough to hate it, its a limitation. You enjoy/enjoyed the original and how limited is that compared to what we have now.

I agree on the 'popup stations' thing, I really wish the dropout distance was exactly where you dropped out.

Rather than just hitting a button and the station magically appears.

Really, I think this would simply be better.
Render the stations in Supercruise, give a finer control of supercruise speeds when near the target, and just have us drop out exactly where we press the button, maybe with a security buffer of a few kilometers around the starport.
This would also be really interesting for doing stuff like jumping out at wakes or the place where your wingmate just got interdicted in the future. It might be hard to hit exactly, and you'll end up a few kilometers out.

Agree with you-

Popup stations at point blank range I dislike. I'd much prefer a long cruise in, coming across ships a bit more like classic Elite.

Entering Supercruise is much smoother than it has been previously but is still clunky.

However I have had some genuine classic Elite moments in the betas, some great combat and had one great night of play where everything was brought to life multiplayer wise thanks to an injected 'war' event.

The stuff I don't like will be a hard swallow if it stays as it is.

Agreed. Glitching around the universe isn't the most appealing mode of travel. I love the idea behind supercruise, but the exit leaves a lot to be desired.

SALUTE Sir!

So, you joined the forums over a year ago to come in here now and degrade it? Hmmm. I myself joined the forums as soon as I started the game, to HELP give input and feedback that would HELP the developers, not come in here at the END and try to STOP people from joining the community!

JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY Quote coming here look out...!
You Fargin Ice holes! Get the summon a british outta here! Vulcan Clock watchers anyway!

Have a nice day!

SALUTE! and cya in the stars!

I was under the impression pop up stations is only an issue due to online solo/open. It shouldn't be a problem at all for those that play purely offline.

its strange to dislike a whole game cause of one baseline mechanic.. i mean try harder to immers yourself.

maybe you are the kind of people that cant enjoy alien:isolation either. one of the greatest games for the past years. dont be too analytical. its a game after all.. force yourself / push yourself a little more..

As was explained in the other thread you made about not being able to see stations in supercruise it makes perfect sense that you're only able to see them when you zone into their instance. In supercruise you're traveling at speeds that don't make it possible to see a "small" object like a station relative to how fast you're traveling.

In addition, I'm assuming you're referring to the slight pause that you experience when entering supercruise and leaving it. There's not much that can be done about this as its related to how the game performs and most likely isn't a design decision.

Strange comment... It seems to me that disliking a game due to having issues with a baseline mechanic, as you put it, is a perfect reason, if you're gonna have one! ;)

the emphasis should be on one and mechanic..

anyway its not like theres a punching fist that comes out of the pc every 5 minutes - its more like a lack of willingness to be immersed thats hindering said person to have fun.. no game can be as perfect as real life - expecting that is insulting.

I'm with the OP.

After anxiously anticipating E4 for decades, it's falling far short of my minimum expectations - compromised in the main, by the so-called technical limitations of MP and associated fragmentation of the game into a decidedly non-seamless hodgepodge of disparate mechanics.

You're welcome to try rationalize it any way you want, but this is not the boundless freedom of past games. It's invisible walls, speed limits, rooms in space, clunky and distinctly 'designed by committee'.

I stopped playing a couple of months back, and likely won't try again until the above problems are ironed out - if that ever happens.

No, but he's right... The transitions between the flight modes is VERY rough, it is jarring, and does not promote suspension of disbelief IMHO. I wouldn't go so far as to say it kills the game (it doesn't) but it's definitely a sub-par experience. Obviously in the OP's case it's such a bad experience it spoils things too much. *shrug*

I'm the opposite, long time gamer (still have the Elite cassette for the Spectrum) following them game for a long while and finally succumbed to picking up the beta. Loving it so far, and having spent a lot of time playing MMOs and the like, I can certainly see the launch game for what it is, a building block for future content

Yup "pop up" stations are an immersion killer, same issue dropping out of SC into combat. It just looks so naff in comparison to the rest of the game.

As I have said in the other threads it would be great to have same feeling you get coming out of hyperspace. Speeding in towards the station and picking out the entrance and patrols, speeding in to an interdiction or larger fight trying to spot numbers and ship types before being dropped into the middle of it. It would add to the anticipation and immersion no end.

Is it enough to stop me playing ... not even close but it is a little thing that jars on my nerves.
