Ok, who has stolen my bindings again?

So, they were there last night, backed them up on shutdown as I have done every session since returning to the game, having had to rebind from scratch around 3 or 4 times, ah, I hear you say, the tedium is character building.

The files are still there, the game can't see them, despite EDrefCard having no such issue. As soon as I have resolved yet again not to rage quit again, I will make yet another attempt to get them to work, but I know that the quickest option is to do a full rebind. Maybe a Binds 101 would help :)

Do you use more than one device? I only ask because I use both a Cougar as my HOTAS, and a X Box controller for FSS. Whenever I boot my machine there is a chance that the X Box controller is not recognized (a replug fixes it). When this happens, the custom bindings will not load since the game thinks one device is not connected.

May be unrelated to your problem, but something to be aware of if your device(s) is undetected in some way by Windows.

Thanks for the reply. I recently got hold of an X52 Hotas and have been using this with mouse and keyboard for a month. A couple of weeks ago I did start the game without plugging in the X52 and lost my binds, in a similar manner, much as you describe, but not this time. My binds file (HCS Saitek X52Pro.binds) is in the binds folder, EDRef can read the binds, but the they don't appear in the game drop down controls, it reverts to Saitek X52 binds. I have compared my backups (there are many) and they are identical, copied my backup Bindings folder into the game options folder, but no joy.

Are you 100% sure the stick is currently recognized by Windows? have a look in control panel and see if it responds to input. If it does then what I wrote does not apply. Good luck

If your binds folder is included in the system restore settings. You should be able to restore the custom.binds file by clicking on it then right clicking > Properties > Previous Versions Then restore it by date. But in ED did you try to load it through the presets?
Google how to back up a binds file so you can change the name so this does not happen again. And the file StartPreset.start contains the name of the last preset you used.
Para Handy and Strontium dog have both written instructions.
Good luck.

Never lost my bindings.. Life is so unfair.

Now.. Power thru the USB is usually the cause of this. I suggest you buy a powered USB hub to connect your equipment

Check the folder with the bindings in for a file "BindingLoadingErrors.log" and see what it tells you. If ED can't see a controller it should tell you which one.

My file named HCS SaitekPro.binds is still in the Bindings folder but it doesn't show up in the presets in-game. It loads into EDRefCard fine, and has the most recent changes to the binds. I have followed Strontium dog's written instructions to the letter, more than once now. Binds have loaded correctly for at least 5 short sessions over last couple of days, today I am back to square one. No luck with system restore btw.

Ok, good call, I thought that was HCS/Voice attack missing binds log so ignored it, call me an idiot if you like but had same issues with my old Hotas so didn't twig. Log says:-
There where errors when loading preset file: HCS SaitekX52Pro.3.0.binds
There are multiple entries of binding "MouseGUI" Only the first will be used

Bloody Hell, GUID seems to be for EdTracker, didn't realise it is compulsory to have it set up and switched on. Bloody Hell. Working again now, thanks for the help guys and gals.

When you change one of the standard bindings that ED supplies, it is saved as custom.binds.
I've just up/down-graded to win 10 and I don't have that option yet. (Another thing I need to check.)
