Who's the Fdev sadist that came up with idea to unlock Lei Chung by dealing in 50 markets? (he/she probably laughed while coming up with this mind bending, pain enducing idea.)

I want their Name, address, phone number, names of wife and children, aunts uncles, nieces, nephews, cats and dogs!
I'm going to force them (even the animals) to each do all 50 markets while I watch and laugh during their agony!
We'll see just how funny they think the idea was!

I think I'd rather listen to Vogon poetry and chew my leg off.

Load up 50 commodities.
Fly to 50 stations.
Sell 1 ton at each.
Then you've probably already been to many.
It'a all about having the player experience trading a little bit.
The engineers cover lots of ED play styles to sample.
Easier just to go to the stns empty handed, buy one, sell one.
Besides, we've all had to find a commodity like gold, cigars or lavian brandy to get a taste for trading.
50 is too much! It would still please me to make them and their extended families suffer this waste of game mechanics.

It was not that hard when the game was more about commanders flying about and doing their thing. You'd go from place to place, check out the opportunities and see if there was a good trade going to your next stop. But then the gameplay changed so there is now the ONE place to mine, the ONE place for rank, the ONE place for mats, etc. So now people never go anywhere. 🤷‍♂️

I've traded in almost 500 markets so far, where's the problem ?
The problem is its rediculous to have folks trade in 50 different stations to unlock an engineer. It's by far the most idiotic way of all the engineers. I'm not a trader. I abhor it actually. I don't mind jumping and scanning, exploring, landing, exploring, but I can do without the repetitive mucking about in SC 50 times in a row. That's where the problem is. Too much idle time.
Put on the headphones, listen to Fleetwood Mac, Kings X, Boston, the Doobie Brothers, the Beatles, Sade, Grover Washington, Parliament, Midnight Star etc etc.

It just takes a bit of prep/hindsight. If you remember to buy/sell 1t of hydrogen fuel at every station you visit from game start by the time you’re ready for engineering a decent shield you’ll probably be up to around 30 markets.

You have to do five black markets for Dweller (he has at least 3 in his own system) so there’s another 5 commodity markets out the way.

A really good way to break the back of it at the start of the game is to slap a class 3 economy cabin on a hauler and play taxi doing transport missions, you need the credits anyway at that stage in the game and local travel pays ok.

I even bought this paint for my Hauler just for this activity.

But yeah, if you’ve not prepared and you’re sat ready with a bunch of materials and 0/50 markets completed it’s going to feel daunting.

The real problem is everyone expecting to have access to all Engineers, or all PP modules, or whatever, without any trade offs...and Frontier largely being willing to give it to them.

I'm not a trader.

Lei Chung is and prefers to help those who also are.

If you are starting cold its a pain, but a lot of the requirements were already met if you had been in the game for a while.

Yep.

Primarily a combat pilot--and before Engineers, primarily a PvP combat pilot. My CMDR had still traded with several hundred, perhaps over a thousand, markets by the time Engineers dropped.

Hell, probably visited over fifty stations just trying to find parts to outfit my Viper.

Lei Cheung doesn't offer any blueprints that aren't also available at other engineers.
Shields: Mel Brandon
Boosters: Mel Brandon or Didi Vatermann, and they both do more than G3
Sensors: five other engineers at G5
Surface Scanner: four other engineers at G5, five by the end of October

And he only unlocks Ram Tah, who is only absolutely needed if you need G5 ECM or Chaff, the other blueprints are offered by at least one other engineer.

So you don't have to trade in any markets at all to get access to almost all of those engineering blueprints.
