Okay seriously, WHAT THE HELL is with combat these days???

Okay look, some of you might be thinking "oh look, another combat-is-broken thread", but I just felt like I really needed to vent right now. Hopefully that's okay.

a few weeks ago I came back to Elite after a significant break and I noticed combat had gotten significantly harder than before, so lately I've been putting more effort into bettering my combat skills and "git gud". However, after a while I started to get the hang of it again as I started manouvering better and landing my shots more I noticed it wasn't just me, the NPC's have some ridiculous borderline god-mode on.

Just now I was doing some haz-res hunting and as I saw a lone Federal Dropship I thought cool, a relatively easy target to kill. Boy was I surprised when after several volleys from my class 2 and 3 multi-cannons I got its health down to 80% before his shields was up again. I ended up spending like half of my ammo and all of my shield cells fighting this guy and when he finally got my Python's shields down ONCE he took my hull down to 27%.

Jesus g Christ what happened to this game?? This wasn't a one-off incident either mind you, over the past week I've had freaking COBRAS tank more damage than would be reasonable for a goddamn Anaconda. Whenever combat isn't unreasonably difficult it's just a mind-numbing chore when the smaller ships have a habit of just bolting into a 8km distance in the middle of combat for no reason, coming back and then do it all over again to stretch a 2 minute fight into a 15 minute fight.

Okay, I could rant on and on about this for several more paragraphs, like how these problems stretch into supercruise as well, but I'd imagine most of these issues are probably already addressed anyway so I'm just gonna cut it off here with these words: Combat just isn't fun anymore...

Thank you, sorry to bother you.

Have you been into a Med / High CZ yet?

I have noticed ships appear to have more hit points than previously - perhaps Frontier are responding slowly to the cries for more difficulty for the 'bored' folk :)

ETA: Have you unlocked the, now almost mandatory, engineers who can make you ship 'tankier' and guns 'pew-pewier' yet? They will help, lots!

But just increasing hitpoints doesn't make the fights harder; newer players just get frustrated because they're having a harder time and veterans get frustrated because they have to do even more boring combat.

It would be better if instead of having ridiculous superhuman stats the npc's were just more organized, like if pirates would retaliate to players attacking their fellow faction members and they would fly in wings more.

I remember when you could go to a low intensity combat and actually survive without an engineered fully upgrade A rated ship. You'd actually plow through a lot of ships and while the credits were small you got a lot of kills and there was a lot of action.

Now its literally 5-10 mins per fight, low credits .. lucky in an entire skirmish you can get 3-4 kills if you don't get killed - with a fully engineered ship.

They need to make LOW - LOW and HIGH - HIGH. Right now its all pretty much the same.

We should not be seeing anacondas in low rez etc.

CZ ships have been sturdier for some time now, much more than anything you'll find in a hazres. Some are engineered as well.

You should get in on some of the engineer action yourself, the Python is an absolute monster when its modified. The difference between a vanilla Python and even a partially modded one is almost night and day.
I've always known CZ ships are sturdier, but I'm talking about normal pirates on RES sites and signal sources.

Last time I tried getting into engineering I didn't have the right materials for it and didn't know where to get them, so I just ended up grinding more money and federation rank. Considering I'm a billionaire and I got myself a Corvette now I guess it might be time to try it again. I did kinda want to start grinding empire rank for a cutter next, but I guess doing some engineering first might make it easier...

The game tries to promote engineering this way, just like they force you to mindlessly mine in order to afford a fleet carrier.
Really?
I pick up my engineering mats in normal play - then deliberately fly to Colonia to rank up their engineers a bit :)

I'm also not forced to mine to get a Fleet Carrier, I just won't afford one for a couple of months yet, but I won't have mined to get it :)

A combat is too easy thread will be along in a minute...
There's half-a-dozen of them already going. I guess this means that combat is just right, like Goldilocks!

If you're going to fly non-engineered ships, maybe you should be playing the non-horizons version of this game. That's assuming of course that the NPCs in that game are not engineered, but as there are no engineers in that version of the game, there shouldn't be.

Well, good luck affording one in a couple of months (instead of years), through your "normal play", as you call it.
But anyway, I've changed the subject of the thread so, apologies to the OP for that :)
