Well after 3ish years of totally enjoying this game in solo/private group I have finally ventured into open and hope to stay this way. However I have realised I have no clue how to use the com's. So far I have got away with my lack of knowledge. How on earth (or space in this case) do I interact with others??
Just today I arrived at my home system and immediately got a direct "o7" from our very own Commander Grey Area (by the way welcome to my humble home sir) All I managed was a swift o7 in local and hoped he saw it. I am in need of education, could someone please point me in the right direction.

The comms system if pretty confusing. You have local comms, were anything you type is seen by all. Then you have friends comms. If a friend or friends are online, you can tab to the 3rd comms tab, select a friend and (a) send a direct message, or (b) request a voice comm link (assuming you both have mics.)

It's easier if you setup the comms to use side TABS for the channels you use the most, so I have local/wingman/squadron all tabbed on the left of the comms menu.

Also, when you first look at the coms tab you get a little bit of help.
It says key in /help to get more help.
Doing this will list all the commands it will accept like /reply to reply to a recent Direct message.

Love to help but quite a fair bit of that functionality for me is bound to the pinky trigger on the x52 pro .. if i remember its on the comms panel at top left of screen (try keys 1 - 4? Maybe).
