old journal log files?

Hello, I have been updating my journal files and I see that since July when i had a house break in and lost my computer, I don't have the log files from December when I started playing, are these store server side as well or how may I find these, thanks

Sadly I think they are stored locally mate, I hope someone can confirm or deny this. But I've read of people importing etc so always presumed they were local.

Sorry about what happened pal - I write a lot of sarcastic stuff on here, but this is genuine - it must suck to have been through this.

yea cheers mate, felt like so betrayed or w/e and here I am more concerned about the ELW out there some where between sag a and colonia that i found :D

Can't EDD or one of those other third-party tools re-create your journal files from stuff you've already downloaded to them?

This assumes you were using EDD before you lost your computer, of course.

i was not

EDSM stores your travel data, if you were using any tool that reports to EDSM it will have your data. If you weren't there are some simply tools out there that will report to EDSM without all the bells and whistles of EDDiscovery, I suggest now is a good time to start!

Hand in the data at the next port ingame as soon as you can manage and the ELWs are yours. That does (AFAIK) not depend on your journal files.
... though it will not really help you to find them again 🤷‍♂️

I'm sorry to hear that, @Al_Capone.

This also means, for those CMDRs who like to keep playing while they're away from home and thus install onto a laptop, that there's some file-syncing to be done to keep logs complete.
Also, it must mean that if you plan to replace your PC, you'll want to grab those files to put them on the new one.

I posted my answer relatively light-heartedly because I couldn't have imagined that the discoveries would depend on the data in the journal files. Unbelievable.

I'm really sorry for you.
