Newcomer / Intro old Legacy modules now in 4.0 LIVE, should I upgrade them again?

As per title, a few weeks ago I've gone 4.0 LIVE from my old Legacy, kickstarter backer and all that jazz.

In there, I have quite a few important combat ships with their Beam Lasers & Multi Guns etc maxed to the brim.
Now I see if I want to change something they will drop from Grade 5 to 4, and I'll have to Five them again and again put Experimental.

Why should I do that? Do they have some handicap as they are now?
Are old Legacy weapons inferior a bit to the LIVE ones? Or should I just ignore and play with Legacy weapons without any handicap?

(while at it, what about all the rest of the modules? Upgrade from 4 to 5 LIVE, or play with them already maxed to 5 + Experimental Legacy?)

Thank you!

It really depends on the module - there's a lot more variation in G5 module performance on the old system, so you'll need to check them individually to see which of the following applies:
- the module is a fairly weak G5 from the old system; there's a good chance that a new maxed G4 is better - you may as well upgrade them to new G4 now
- the module is a decent G5 from the old system; redoing it to G4 will probably be a downgrade, but the new G5 is probably better - you may as well keep them as they are for now, but consider upgrading them later if you end up with a bunch of spare materials
- the module is an exceptional G5 from the old system - lucky secondary rolls, etc. - which may well exceed even the new G5 - these you want to keep as they are

Quite a few weapon blueprints just got made substantially better in the engineering reform, so depending on what blueprints you're using there's a good chance many of your weapons are in the first category.

On the other hand, if your weapons are doing plenty of damage already ... just keep them as they are and don't worry about it. You're not going to see massive improvements by going through the upgrade process again.

Thank you guys (y)

Damn, I've been away too long - completely forgot about "the God rolls". Now I remember I spent insane amount of time grinding mats and going over and over to Broo and McQueen for now-it-has-to-be-better, and what I ended up on my important two Corvettes are God's own guns 'n lazers. Just found dozens and dozens of rejects in various Storage 1, Storage 2, 3 etc ships parked here and there.

I will keep the old ones.

So there's no variation in rolls now, every full Grade 5 is exactly the same?

Yep. Which is good and bad. You can no longer tinker and tinker and keep tinkering. Done is done. On the other had it lessens the grind and makes build planning easier.

IMHO, it's better this way. As you say, done is done and the grinding & planning are straight forward - and fixed.

I went crazy 8-9 years ago with mindless material grind for better and better rolls, and left the game drained a year or so later. If the Grade 5s were fixed, it would have been much more relaxed - you do one G5 and that's it.

Yes the roulette approach has gone so we get to choose (where available) an experimental effect rather than try and win a useful one.
