Newcomer / Intro old newbie came back and feels lost.

Years ago I bought some collectors edition for a friend of mine, and a simple version for myself, and graced this universe with 2 npc's with our names.
This was a long time ago and although I remember flying around the galaxy for quite some time, I come back after years and see the game forgotten about this.
But not all of it, I have ships parked across the universe one of which I'm trying to reach while trading along the way but no logs of when I bought them.
I also remember saving up for my own docking computer but I think they are default now?

The game feels new and I see there is a DLC waiting for me to purchase.
  • Should I buy the DLC? Or perhaps wait a bit and make more money?
  • I don't have my frontier account connected to my steam account, can and should I?
  • I see rich and expressive pilot avatars and then look at my latex-coated helmet-head avatar, can I alter it?
Thanks for any help.

1. Horizons is well worth it, it gives access to some ships and many, many features.

2. No need. Run your commander outside Steam.

3. That is one of the features you gain access to with Horizons - "Holo-Me". https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Holo-Me

P.S. No, Docking computers are still optional internal equipment - they are fitted by default to newly bought small ships but not to medium or large pad ships.
