Old player coming back for an "alien" peek...

Hello my friends, the space bear is back.

today I set up my Oculus and my joystick and finally logged in after a very long break. I have to say that ED looks in a very good shape. It feels pretty solid game and the user interface looks finished and polished (I only found a random glitch in the exploration UI).
Of course the first thing I wanted to test was the exploration part. But I got cought by a pleasant surprise along the way: the light!
The new global illumination looks great. The beige pleague is gone and there is so much color diversity. The added contrast looks closer to reality and the dark side of the moons is finally dark. The exploration tools feel good in VR, though they don't seem to perfectly synergize with VR. I'm ok with the main scanner UI, but the transition from the cockpit view to the surface probe view feels "rough". I wish I could launch the surface probes as I launch the lipets (from inside the ship) without the need to have a dedicated UI like it is now. Also the whole explo stuff adds more keybinds to an already mess of buttons to push, whitch is never a good thing for VR users. But it's a little detail. I love how exploration works now and I spent most of my session by exploring and running some happy tourists around the galaxy. I also played a couple of combat missions and I found them to be basically the same old stuff. I know I know, there's much more new... like mining...

But why did I came back? Because there is something I really missed about this game and it is the thargoids/guardians story. Basically I missed the whole Lore since the first alien findings. So after hundred of hours invested in this game there is still much I missed!
But there is a problem: I have no Idea where to start from! What should be the first step? I want to experience the story from the very start, so could you guys suggest me some place/site/forum to get started from? I feel scared by the mass of fragmented informations I could be slapped in my face, because it is like one year and half of missing game lore xD
What do you say guys? Any suggestion?

Head out to see prof palin, any of the systems around there spawn NHSS (non human signal source) i would start, cautiously.
There are plenty of different sorts of Thargoids to encounter. Scouts (small mars attacks flying saucers) attack on sight. Interceptors (big scary looking ones) will normally just come an scan you.

Its most excellent fun in an AXCZ, but you will need a decent ship. If you can boost over 450ms then you can outrun all but the Basillisk Interceptor, that shifts, bout 530ms.

Good luck CMDR, AXI have all the info you need 😉

Some things - google them. Lots on the Canonn website, and I'm sure other places.

Guardians:

1) Ram Tah (Meene) has 2 missions that take you to their sites. First is difficult, second is very difficult (even with guides). Go to bases in Meene (not his own!) to get the missions. And google for guides. Gives you lots of lore, though it's summarised in the codex.
2) Tech Broken Unlocks - unlock modules by visiting Guardian Sites if you unlock a range you get to interact with the newer sites
3) Professor Melville is out in the Guardian Area, his megaship story is fun to visit

Humans:
0) The Megaship Sarasvati is pretty old lore
1) Google for the INRA bases - worth a visit for lore
2) Also Attacked Settlements - they are more recent - more lore
3) Also Far God Settlements - even more recent
4) There are several Eagle Eye Installations around the Pleiades (e.g. Delphi). They can be decoded, google.

Thargoids:
1) Visit Obsidian Orbital in Maia, Prof Palin often gives out (short) missions to Thargoid areas
2) Scout and Interceptor crashes around the Pleiades
3) Visit thargoid bases and barnacles - Delphi has both I think - FSS & DSS to find them. Google how to activate the bases if you like, it's very pretty.
4) You can try for a hyperdiction - jump in and out of the attacked systems in the bubble. Or often when doing Prof Palin's mission
5) Visit the attacked stations in the bubble - 2nd Galnet post in-game gives locations

Probably other stuff, though it makes less sense now that it's all happened.

This is the perfect link. I joined the Canonn at the very start of the adventure. When we had to eye-ball for alien signs (hard times). Then my elite-destiny changed and I got absorbed by other acrivities. I'll start some reading tomorrow.
Also thanks to the other guys above. :D
Powerplay chased me away and I came back a month ago.
Since you'll be doing lots of grinding, get an explorer vessel, put a Guardian FSD Booster in it. Unlock Felicity Farseer and engineer your FSD for increased range. That should make everything much easier, because you'll travel a lot around the bubble.

The game has become much richer, both in lore and actual places to visit. I guess that it'll take me at least a month or two just to visit all existing surface sites and generation ships.

Head out toward one of the recent incursion systems, if you're lucky you'll get hyperdicted by Thargoids (they don't do anything to you bar shut the ship down for a few seconds), that is 'atmospheric'.

Otherwise the other advice here has been spot on :)

Welcome back!

Thanks for this list. No idea the attacked ground stations and far god cult stuff had audio logs.

Just wondering if you knew if the 'Decoding the Ancient Ruins' mission is still bugged? There's been a warning message on the canonn website for a while now.

I think some of the glyphs on the obelisks are still wrong, but the Canonn site has the correct ones, so you can finish the mission. Not seen anyone say anything about it for a while.

You can go back into hibernation- nothing new.

I missed all the new exploration and mining stuff, plus I totally missed the whole thargoids and guardians content, plus I missed the PP special modules ( forgot about this). Anyways thank you for the infos, guys. I happen to have a sneaky engineered exploration AspX (43ly jump) so it's time for some exotic tourism. :)
