Old ship sold, new ship bought, bought the old back, lost 2 million? :-/

Hello,

can someone show me the following:
  • a precise table about ship travel distances with variable mass and modules fitted
  • a precise guide about ship selling with modules and buy prices variables, differences, know hows

Since I had no idea about the travel distances, insurance prices and modul prices of the Type 7, but had assest in 20m value, I have bought that ship and sold my Asp. After some fits I saw that I still need about 3-4 million to be able to fly the Type 7 safely, so I have sold it again, and bought back my Asp. After all said and done my balance is down by 2m! Somewhere, between the sell and buy, I have lost that much money! :S:S:S

For me that is a lot of money, for just tossing ships and modules around inside a station without ever leaving it, and no way to try thing out first! Very-very said panda here. :(:(:(:(:(:(

Thank you,
Peter

It appears that you loose 10% of the value of the ship when you trade in....

....this INCLUDES modules - to save your money, I suggest you sell all your modules and downgrade them first, then change your ship - another thing that is unfortunately not mentioned anywhere.

I have known about the "sell modules first" thing, that I have read it before in the forums... so I did that. Still lost money - and I have no idea why!

The 10% trade-in loss makes sense here. You lost 600k on your Asp then another 1.7mil on your type 7. Total loss at 10% depreciation = 2.3 mil which is what you are seeing.

You are selling a second hand ship and buying a new ship why would you think it would be a 100% return on the sale of a second hand ship ?

Even cars loose value once out of the showroom.

Ill say to you what I say to everyone else, this is a GAME - its meant to be fun and rewarding not punishing. Go play EvE if you want to be tortured.

Played Eve liked the game just wish it had a solo mode.

Even in other mmo's you never get a 100% return on stuff bought from npcs. So why should this game be any different ?

did the same with a type 7 wanted to see how much the insurance was for the python, swapped back to the type 7 lost credits.

a little bit annoyed at this game mechanic and ED

also why can you not sell modules to a station if they do not stock the item in the first place, it is stupid

Because you have to have those parts in your ship and if there isn't one for sale at that station, what would you replace it with?

Otherwise you'd be posting instead "I sold my life support and didn't have enough money to buy it back after I bought my cargo and now I ca'n't go anywhere in only 5 minutes! This is stupid!"

Oh, and if you bought the game recently, you get 95% of your ship covered, so insurance is 5% of the cost of your ship plus all modules. No need to buy a ship to see its insurance cost. And this information is on the same tab that shows the cost of yoru current ship's price after insurnace - it gives you the percent you are covered, which is the same for all ships.

Although 9 times out of 10 I would normally agree with that statement.
But this time? Seriously.. No..

Every space game I can think of has a depreciation on second hand craft of about 10%
In fact, pretty much every game that has NPC trading such as items, cars, etc all have a second hand depreciation.
It makes sense. Although it would be nice to have a penalty free "buy back" option (like they have with modules) before you leave the station, this way your specific situation could have been avoided and we could have a look before we buy for certain.

Ah, ofc, thank you!

In EVE its very clearly displayed you will loose money, since everything is connected to the player owned market, and you use that market to buy and sell. Ships in ED doesn't work like that (at least not yet, or it's not visible), no visual hints given, only a different screen from the market UI with a total value is shown (you don't even see the ship and modul prices separate). If ships and modules would be part of the market (as in UI and in function), it would be much more clearer - now it's a black box without any hints and helps.

Better idea. Instead of selling your old ship. KEEP IT. when you can afford the new ship buy it. If you don't have the insurance for the new ship. Use your old ship until you have the funds to support the new ship.

If you want to deal with cargo. Insurance is a priority Cargo Second.

It's not most games where you sell something at 50% of original value. I find the depreciation to be quite reasonable.

I can agree with you, even if I don't like it, or think that it's helpful in this game. We need some kind of simulator, a test platform to be able to try things out before commitment.

However, in my opinion, the real problem is the lack of information about how things work. Nothing in the manual, only some random forum posts from players stating "I think it works like that".

You know how much you paid for the ship. You were told how much you would get for selling it. Therefore you had all the information you needed. What more did you expect?
