OMG whats going on?

just a note to say well done FDEVs consistent fps 40-52. approaching a planet, going into a station. even when jumping to another system. low cpu 38% usage my temp is measured by colour. blue, green, red. it is actually on blue. it is usually green/red playing ED
I will test planetary landing when I get back:)

Compared to when?

Well, since there's been no update in that time then any differences are down to your setup.

I have done a few things to see what was using my cpu all the time. though I havnt made any changes to my sys. oh just thought I had increased the clock of my ram . it must have been that :)

I don't know when it happened...some update or patch after 2.0, but performance has seriously improved on my end

GTX 970
i5 4960K
8GB RAM
SSD
1080p

I lock my fps at 60 and have not seen a single dip during play since at least the last patch. Inside stations, on planets...didn't matter, rock solid. The only dips in fps I've seen have been during the spin ship load screen...which doesn't matter.

Exactly the same experience here, and I also have virtually the same setup (only a different CPU. but Elite isn't really heavy on the CPU in the first place)

so we can be fairly sure that ram and cpu are not being fully utilized at 60fps. So even less of a reason to not pre-fetch and cache things on seperate non-blocking threads like the galaxy map, system map, mission board, galnet news, Next jump skybox creation - which actually probably makes up a significant portion of the jump loading time. so that when I go to view these things they load instantly.

What you describe would kill performance on a less powerful system. Loading textures and maps "just in case" they're needed would thrash a system. The pre-fetch should go off during the 4... 3... 2... 1... countdown to Witchspace.
