As im in my mid 30's and heading for a mid life crisis and still living in past I decided to google all the things I used to enjoy as a young boy growing up in a technological albeit Nuclear age. One of the many things I remember about my childhood was being able to leap out of bed at 7 AM every morning full of energy and living in a carefree world oblivious to the bad things around me. Another thing I remember about my childhood is Elite!! From boy to man I have enjoyed Elite and cant believe after recently discovering this site that Elite still lives on and has a huge fan base. Ive played all the recent stuff like privateer and eve online and every time I get my mates into these games I tell them its like Elite but multiplayer... And their reply is usually? really? omg where do i download?...
Incase you hadnt guessed already, this thread is about paying homage to a guy from the early days that created an immensely thrilling and awe inspiring game called elite (Ian bell, your not forgotten here either)
When we look at history we see that mr bell invented the telephone, einstein invented the theory of relativity, Isaac Newton discovered some **** about gravity and David Braben created a truly magnificent 3d space game that is the basis for most modern (all maybe) space games.
Everyone on here please ask yourselves to think of your favourite game ever excluding elite and ask yourselves who the main guy is that is involved in the making of the game.... Of all the games ive ever played I have never singled out any one particular name that was paramount to the creation of the game in question. All i can say is that when I think of Elite I immediatly think of David Braben.
Mr braben, you are my hero and I wish you the very best of everything for you and the future of your company and hope that Elite 4 lives up to my expections of a game that will in 10 years will also seem like a classic that i enjoyed in my mid 30's
