So. PvP in Elite: Dangerous. I've never claimed to be the best pilot out there, but I've been playing the game as long as anybody and I got some words I'd like to speak. Here goes.
Hell of a monster, ain't it? It's unbalanced, unorganized, and on the best days difficult as can be to get the fights you want. On the other hand, when it all jells together, I'd suggest there's possibly nothing else quite like it anywhere in computer gaming. You all know what I'm talking about. You've been searching for targets all day (whether that's PowerPlay, CGs, bounty hunting, or just straight murder) and those little hollow squares finally show up and you know it's time to dance.
But by the gods all the garbage that we've surrounded it with. 'Space bushido,' tactics shaming, toxic trash talk - it all just really kills the mood, don't it? Well, I don't know about you all, but I'm done with all that. All I can do is accept the game as it stands right this moment and play it the best I know how.
Gonna try to do better. Be better. So what do I think that means going forward?
Unless the fight is arranged ahead of time it's jungle rules, baby. Fight, flee, or die. Put aside my ego. Play the game. See what else there is to do while still exploring how PvP fits into the larger scheme of what Elite: Dangerous is.
Because like the Captain said, 'I'm not looking for forgiveness and I'm way past asking for permission.'
See you out there. o7
