Modes On Chilling Out About the Modes

lol no-one goes after players for 1 merit per kill :D

You go after players for the merits / cargo they are carrying - when they are destroyed, the merits and cargo are lost with them, depriving the opposition.

Anyhoo, I'm aware that we're veering off the track and spirit of Phisto's thread now; maybe we can continue the Powerplay discussion over here?

So true.
I do all my Powerplay in open anyhow, and the hardest part about ferrying materials is all the button pushing to fast track.

...
I predict when this goes live the number of Open PvE Haulers will still determine who comes out on top. PvP plays a reactionary role. When I brought this up and suggested ways in which PvP could be a leading role it was shrugged off.

I got the sense that challenging PvP is not as important as shooting lots of CMDRs in non-combat vessels under the flag of meaningful PvP.

Besides, challenging PvP might mean getting blown up yourself. And that's no fun is it? Just ask all them "cowardly" PvEers "hiding" in solo/PG.

It isn't so much a prediction as a certainty. Making PP Open Only will kill PP stone dead.
PP is 99.9% (or more) about PvE tokens. Moving it into Open will not make more PvP. It will be just exactly the same as it is now. No token haulers will occupy Open, that is an utterly notion. They'll just leave PP. This is a certainty.
FDev better have a plan to restore the status quo if they do ever restrict PP to Open and have the intelligence to restore all 3 modes to PP when it falls stone dead.

I'm already face-palming in anticipation of it flopping spectacularly and I'm amazed that more people don't see this certainty for what it is.

Of course, when it becomes painfully evident that the PvE tokens being dropped in a cycle reduces by 10 fold, the PvP crowd will probably try to convince everyone else that they were right all along and it was direct PvP action that was responsible for the 10 fold reduction in merits being turned in. You know, because they successfully blew up all the tokens. I'm afraid that's another facepalm right there from me in anticipation of them thinking the rest if us will believe that baloney.

Oh well. We can see it happening Jockey, but we appear powerless to stop it, even though we're right.

lol, I should hope not but the thought some new CMDR who doesn't know better is darn right amusing :)

True, true.
+1

Since that infamous attack on Mobius and my own experience since joining Loren's Legion I've been thinking a lot about competition in Elite and how it relates to the Modes.

Of course, I'm known now as an 'Opener' and have attempted to promote playing in that mode as much as possible. Probably said some things I wouldn't now, but hey, that's the price of evolving your position ain't it?

So here's the thing. The game is what the game is. It's Frontier's baby and they're gonna do what they see fit. We can say what we like of course and things will go from there. I get that. All good. When it comes to me as a player though I just can't get all that worked up about what Mode people choose to play in. You do you, pick what's appropriate to the experience you want, and have some fun.

That said.

Do I think Open provides the superior Elite experience and the chance to tell stories you just can't in Solo and Private Group? Yes.

Do I think it's lame to knowingly attack another player group's BgS or PowerPlay in Solo and Private Group? Yes.

Will I still get fired up and want to slap everyone I see? Probably. ;)

Going forward what I'll try to do is promote Open Play in the interest of encouraging satisfying game play for everyone. I want to share what I love about Open Play, first and foremost.

In any case, thanks for reading and have a nice day.

Looks like i need to upgrade my net! had huge trouble seeing Loren's Legion and friends more then once during the 2 days we happened to be operating in the same system.

That's unlucky. I think we only saw one of yours, come to think of it.

Damn had a whole crew there in the end but no one had any luck.
Think I was up to 6 but only once each of yours
Could see my helpers though they were showing up just fine

Wing & Friends list are more important to the MM for instances, so if one of you had a dodgy connection - it would limit the "randoms" you can see as it would try to keep you all together within reason.

Only had one on my friends list and we only winged for a short time so i could show him the only viable CZ, system had several wars at the same time and only one station 80kly away from jump point.
System is really quiet so was only us and them, was my first pvp event the hunt was fun real shame we could only see us :(

That's weird, wonder what the issue was.
Are you still having issues seeing folks? (as far as you know)

Cant really tell as the area is almost unused, but i do tend to see people in the one busy system i go too. Think i might have to head to a CG to test a bit

But how do you restrict all the players to Open...then still have the various platforms, all in Open, working invisibly against each other...logic people....the modes aren't changing.

In short:

What the PVP player keep claiming will happen if PPOO is made:
