On foot cosmetics, can I even see it if I buy?

I super duper want to buy that cowboy plainsman cosmetic suit pack, and maybe the retro vintage one, but I have held off because as far as I can tell, I will never be able to tell if I'm actually wearing the thing or see my character move? I know with ships at least I could use the camera suite and look at my ship and know I looked cool, but these odyssey skins are super expensive and 100% invisible to me?
Is there a chance the game has 3rd person view? I would buy skins instantly.
I have considered buying some gun skins, I really like those dragon skins

Yeah, there is camera suite for on foot as well. If you are into photography, it might be worth it.

As others have said, there is a camera suite for space legs as well. If I recall correctly, you had to bind the keys manually in the game settings. There won't be a 3rd Person view since it would a) cause too much balancing problems like peeking around corners; b) it would not be in line with the first-person only ship and SRV gameplay; c) it would not be in line with Elite as a "simulation" (instead of an arcade shooter game)

Weapon skins are always "visible" to you, as long as you hold your weapon in your hands, so these may be the "best" option for you for now.

OP - you're missing the point of cosmetics. They're actually only so that at the end of a CZ you can jump up and down repeatedly in front of other players while shouting 'look at me! look at my cosmetics!'. Or so it seems after every Open foot CZ I've been to ;)

They are also for easier target acquisition. 😉
At least those color splash suits, whatever they are called.

i wanted to look like (and see that I look like) a badass soldier or a space cowboy

I'll try to find the mentioned camera suite and head look angles.
So far all I've seen of my own on foot character is when I go to upgrade suit screen

I guess if you don't see it much in third-person, you won't appreciate it as much in first-person. Though if you're still just using basic flightsuit, you don't really know what it's like to have different stuff in first-person.

ctrl-alt-space is the default entry keys for camera suite! You can get some nice pics with it but it can be complicated if you want to use the advanced functions;

For some bizarre, completely unknowable, totally "FD thing" reason. Foot has a completely separate binding for the camera....

No it doesn't

(The only exception is the Xbox 360 controller presets, which has Ctrl-Alt-Space as a secondary bind, not primary)

I suspect it's an issue with your own bindings.

Speaking of which, while we can wave, point, etc, why don't we have a "dance" command yet?
Rumor has it that WoW characters can dance. Elite can't dance? What's up with that?
