Do we gain notoriety points for killing on foot clean NPC's at non anarchy locations?

Imagine my surprise when finding out that overload mode on the energy doohickey kills people...not tazes them. Not so far. I've had a few disagreements with locals that went violent. Got fines, bounties, no notoriety.

Sorry, Dr. Honest mistake.

I mean...I guess. I just thought it might be a clever, non-lethal option...but, as I stood there over his body I realized that the game doesn't really have a "stun" option. You're either alive, or you aren't. Oh well...condolences to his family. He shouldn't have been following me around while I was trying to pilfer his lockers. It makes sense though, a defibulator kills too unless they are already in cardiac arrest.

Nope. Murder away.Do we gain notoriety points for killing on foot clean NPC's at non anarchy locations?
No, it tazes them. But that count as kill because reasons.Imagine my surprise when finding out that overload mode on the energy doohickey kills people...not tazes them.

Notoriety was implemented as a deterrent to prevent ganking and griefing. It was applied to PvE for consistency, i.e. kill a clean ship in lawful space, gain notoriety. So those saying "this should be changed" might want to attempt to unravel the spagetti mess of the C&P system to work out the actual reason we have notoriety in the first place and then work out if it's even necesary for on foot. I haven't done that, by the way. I have no desire to do that. But I'm really pretty sure that notoriety was the demon-child of the C&P revamp that all happened because.... ultimately... PVP issues and things like "ship switching" and suiciding and so on. Also rebuy and bounties between players.
Honestly, I don't think notoriety is needed at all for on foot. I don't have the will or inclination to prove that statement as fact. But do you?
The simpler C&P is, the better. Notoriety came about because of a horrendously convoluted necessity that wasn't actually necessary if we all just played nicely in the first place and such crazy scenarios just don't exist on foot. Not that I can see.
I think the way it works right now is just fine. You get penalised. If you die, it's pretty nasty. If you don't, it's fine. It's easy to pay off. It's not too much trouble. And don't forget, there's no rebuy.
Yeh and I'm all for penalties for random PVE (or PVP) murder to scale up as you do it more. I'm not so much bothered by that "you have to wait 2 in game hours to clear the fines" though. You're right that it doesn't deter the people it was supposed to and, in the end, a whole ton of Odyssey's content is based on crime. Might as well just embrace that.Notoriety was implemented as a deterrent to prevent ganking and griefing. Thing is, the players who regulary kill clean ships, whether player or NPC, were completely prepared to deal with it out of the gate.
Now, the PvE community (don't get me wrong, I PvE my off in this game) thought that the exponential cost of crime based on notoriety would help them. I mean, who wants to pay 100M rebuy for a FAS, right? Neener neener. But what they didn't realize is that all of those happy money exploits and mechanics that help them become ultra-rich, also help gankers and griefers become ultra rich. Gankers and griefers are actually better at PvE than PvErs are, because not only do they know exactly how to make the money that keeps them in the cockpit, ganking and griefing, they also know how to avoid being killed and having to pay the cost if they don't want to.
When was the last time anyone saw a ganker, griefer, or just general PvPer (or for that matter, a dirty PvEr) come onto the forum and whine about the cost of a rebuy?
I'll wait....
I am dying to meet random commander X on a planet somewhere so I can kill them. lolYeh and I'm all for penalties for random PVE (or PVP) murder to scale up as you do it more. Anyway, where are all the PKers in Odyssey? Honestly not seen one thread about it. I mean, I could have PKed a player the other night (or tried to, I won't assume I would have beaten them but they didn't know I was there until I announced myself - which is something I actually like about Odyssey) but I chose not to. I know my friend got killed once by another player. I kind of get the impression most of them are all still playing Horizons![]()
