On Foot Thargoid Hunting Will Never Happen. Here is Why...

1. If they are out in the open just fire dumbfire missiles at them like you already can with NPCs. And,
2. If they are inside structures or caves FDev will have just made a copy of Aliens: Fireteam Elite.

Sorry folks.

I can imagine the developers maybe planning for on foot Tharg combat, pitching "Hey boss...what if the Thargs can slither out of ceiling vents and pop up out of cable access panels, like in Ailens?" only to see AFE announced. "Well so much for THAT idea!" LOL

Don't worry, I don't think they'll think it through all that much.
  • Replace human NPCs with Thargoid models.
  • Replace settlement arenas with Thargoid variants and/or reuse settlements with Thargoids spawning in them (the Vulture/Viper dropships will be replaced with flower ships).
  • Add a handful of AX weapons, that need to be unlocked via an INSANE (yes, I shouted this, really loudly) mat grind requirement.
  • Job's done, buy Arx.

OR send the price of tinfoil booming by simply dropping Theta Seven’s shock troops Thargoid gribblies out of the existing dropships. Boom! Less than minimal effort and us nerds will be too busy trying to figure out the nonexistent conspiracy to notice 🤓

I mean Fdev came up with an on foot combat system for Odyssey that you can avoid entirely should you choose to just use dumbfire missiles and your SRV. The on foot "action" can be reduced to just running outside your SRV to grab "the thing" at a crash site or plug in another thing at the power center. Great system.

I think if it ever happens Thargoid foot solders will will probably be pretty much resistant to human weapons as said, and their weapons' will will cause corrosive damage. Now that would be pretty cool.

FDev has painted itself into a corner when it comes to creating new on foot content and combat involving Thargoids. Odyssey will be a dead end UNLESS all our fancy suits and weapons can be used outside the current "gameplay" loop of "upgrade upgrade upgrade...the end".
