On reflection - An apology

I appear to have gathered a bit of a rubbish reputation recently (I'd say worse but the sweary filters don't allow it) especially for being on a constant downer on FD. I have to admit reading through the tripe I posted this week made me realise that I became that kind of forum poster I always despised, and when someone else called me out as a 'troll' I had to take a good look at some of what I posted. Given my job in the IT industry it didn't sit well with me personally nor even match what I'm known for. So I'd like to take the opportunity to apologise and will make sure I put in a few checks and balances on my end before I drop a reply on a thread from now on. Hell, I might even be positive about stuff for a change.

What I'd also like to say is that I've begun to enjoy the game a lot more by taking a break from the usual routines and mixing it up a little, I became frustrated with the pew pew so went back to trading and have actually enjoyed the calm and serenity of running a small trade route to myself. I do think if you stick to one thing in ED for too long you look for the bits that are broken on purpose to justify why you feel bored or unchallenged. This game isn't without its flaws, it has bugs, there are aspects I'd like to change that I think would work but I don't speak for the collective, and I guess I should learn a little more patience with this newborn after all it is like a child we're helping to raise here because of the long term investment.

So, summing up, I'm no troll but I acted like one, it won't be happening again. To FD: sorry for being so harsh. To Mods: sorry for being a pain. To you folks on here: sorry for being a . And to ED: I'll be pressing PLAY for a long time to come.

Best, DR

Nice to see a pilot re-engage their Classy module, and even jumpstart their fun again. +1 for manning up and partying down, pilot.

You must vigorously abuse yourself as penance!

I bought this from Amazon....

I think it was the over defending of things by some people that made you this way, I found myself getting quite negative too it feel better today, played last night and enjoyed it. You also made a lot of good points. Anyway, if you're big enough to apologise, have some rep

I'm of the same faulty behavior. I hate the PVP balance of the game but it's here. Not going anywhere just like Solo/Open switching.

I will still be cautious with buying ANY combat ship over 10m because its not worth it. Period.

I still wish the game was more like Guild Wars 2 open world where human interaction is cooperative instead of competitive. But Pirates need to Pirate. So I'll be in Solo and Group. I just don't see 5 Vipers in a Wings group attacking my ship while I trade and watch Farscape as "fun".

But I have been overly negative. And I apologize for that.

props for that, a lot of us are feeling somewhat let down, some days it presses you too far other days you just forget it and let it slide. If it helps, you may have had a downer on FD and ED lately, as I do, but I dont think you were trolling, mostly your posts are based on aspects of the game and its delivery that are not good enough, everyone chooses how to express that differently and sometimes thats bound to p&^s someone off, thems the breaks :)

and yes

"You must vigorously abuse yourself as penance!"

But in all seriousness, good on ya. I get the desire to want to see problems fixed, but the problem comes when it turns to obsession and one can only see the problems, ignoring the good - or even when acknowledging the good is still so focused on the problems that it takes away any joy one might have.

Likewise those who are enjoying themselves so much they're willingly blind to any ideas of how to improve it or see problems, while they are at least enjoying themselves, aren't going to help make the game better, either. They almost remind me of Father Dougal in this clip

;)

'Tis a hard thing to balance, but I just try to remember the words of Winston Churchill: "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject."

Appreciate the comments. I think I became fixated on defending the negative points too much. I really enjoy the game, warts and all, I don't think I've fallen foul to any of the major bugs that others have either but for some reason wanted to take FD to task on a few points and it became a little out of hand. I don't agree with some of the overtly positive statements, but to use a famous quote here:

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it

Having a personal bias towards the FD defenders I was tempted to have a pop at one or two of your posts (and others to be fair) but the responses didn't make it past my internal filter.

But +rep for your OP.

:)

Trolling forums is a legitimate exercise and helps many people cope with the human condition. Without it there would be just 4 or 5 people here posting very worthy pieces that I probably wouldn't read.

I get depression from time to time, on those days you may see me posting trollish trash in several posts. Almost everyone does from time to time and it really does help with the daemons. Dull days at work are often made bearable reading other peoples trollishness, with low self esteem its comforting to know there are others out there afflicted with life.

Troll posts also give people who wan't to troll but have a superiority complex the opportunity to troll, one of the worst forms of trolling posts are those who label others as troll just because they haven't been able to put their thoughts down in as a clear concise a way as they thought they had.

Everyone should just cut us trolls some slack. Why can't everyone just love everyone, love the game, love the bugs, see the missing content not as a missing items but as well crafted spaces where content can go.

I also sometimes think I'm over doing the troll posting and just walk away but that's a healthy sign.
Purge the troll then walk away, cleansed.

A display of good will is always appreciated. +1 rep for you. To be honest, i already had you on my ignore list, but i cleared it completely... It just isnt right to not listen at all... So welcome back and thank you for your post :)
Be seeing you in space commander!
