Newcomer / Intro On the Road to Riches, a few questions....

After 10 systems I have accumulated 13M. I set spansh tool to 31 range, 500 radius, 325 systems, 1k max to dest., 1 Million min using mapping. It's working out mostly to 3 or 4 jumps per system and took me a couple hours. Will be faster now that I know how FSS and DSS work. Total credits should be about 325 M and I am having fun exploring, not in a rush. I Honked every system and used FSS on most to find a few lower value metal rich planets based on the spectrum readout. I navigated in system to the Water Worlds noted in the list and Surface Scanned them with 6 probes each.

I was ready to take a break but didn't feel good about leaving my ship floating out there with nothing on but life support. I navigated to Antliae Sector PI-T b3-7 and landed at McDonald's. :)

Questions:

1. a. Do the spansh tool mapping credit estimates include a Surface Scan (with probes) on every metal, water, and earth like planet in the target system or just the one water world noted in the list?
b. Do you have to FSS every other body in the system to get to the estimated credits or can you ignore them altogether?

2. I was interdicted once while in FSS mode. I hope it is a rare occurrence. I was no fun since my throttle was locked at zero (submitting) and I had a hell of a time yanking the joystick around to beat the interdiction. I hit FSD during the struggle too and got out of there just in time. Any tips on where to go once in a target system so I can use FSS and avoid being interdicted? Far out from the star and turn back maybe?

3 What is the safest method and place to leave the ship out in space without fear of it being destroyed while I take a break? Someone tipped me not to park in planetary orbits or asteroid belts for starters. I assume life support is the only necessary system to leave on?

Thanks for the assist!

1. Things on the list
2. Don't need to use the fss for the RTR. Anyway you have seconds before the auto-submit kicks in - use them. And learn how to evade interdictions. Google is good. As below, interdictions don't matter if you have no cargo anyway.
3. Just log out. People worry too much.

  1. Pass as I haven’t used Spansh or the Road to Riches yet.
  2. This has happened to me but only rarely, I have a key bound to 50% throttle which is the ideal setting for fighting interdiction however if you have nothing other than limpets in your hold (and why would you when exploring) then you should have nothing to fear from an NPC interdiction.
  3. When I started I used to deploy my weapons so that the ship could defend itself, but that is unnecessary just make sure that where you are isn’t likely to be inside a planet, star or rock (the advice you have already had) when you log back in and you will be fine.

You don't have to worry about the interdictions, assuming that you have no cargo. Don't do anything. You're already at zero throttle, so let the interdiction happen (submit), then, as soon as your FSD cools down, you can get back to business. That only takes a few seconds. The interdiction is either the cops doing a security check or pirates after your cargo. If you have no cargo, the pirates will fly away. These type of interdictions don't happen too often - not like when you're carrying cargo/passengers or running missions.

I don't understand the phrase "throttle was locked at zero (submitting) ".

When interdicted I submit, then drop out. I wait a second hit full power and boost.
I've never had a locked throttle.

Elite has the option to set keys at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% power.
You just need to bind the keys.

When you're performing a full system scan, you are set to zero throttle. If you'd like to evade the interdiction, just throttle up. You won't submit if you throttle up right away. As mentioned, practicing this skill is useful.
Alternatively, you can certainly submit. Your FSD cools down pretty quickly. There are numerous recommendations out there for how to escape. One of my favorites (in no small measure because it's just plain funny) is Rinzlers -

Outfitting aside, the tactics mentioned for maneuvering after submitting are well worth a look and some practice. That begins at 5 minutes in, but I recommend watching this entertaining work from 0:00.

Have fun out there! 🚀

Boy am I glad I started the road to riches. I've only gone 12 systems so far and have gained 20 M.

I've been spending a lot of time looking around at other bodies besides the one recommended for max payout, landing and looking around at geological formations. I stumbled on a pristine icy ring ice ball that has void opal, grandidierite, and bromellite hot spots. First time I have ever scanned a ring too. Beginners luck for sure.

Now I have to go home to refit some mining gear and get back out there. I think I will practice using the gear somewhere local on worthless material so I won't be bothered while I practice. I have zero mining experience so far.

Wish me more luck Commanders!

Top tips for not being bothered while mining.
Don’t arrive in the ring or log into a ring carrying anything other than limpets if you do depart at speed.
After arrival wait before starting mining as you are almost guaranteed to get visitors these will most likely be pirates who will depart after finding out you have no worthwhile cargo though mining NPCs or security are also possible, when the pirates leave start mining. You can be hunting for suitable rocks to mine while this is going on.
Bring lots of limpets.

Good Luck.

Why would you want to evade the interdiction when doing Road to Riches? All that does is waste time.

My post was simply to inform about the option that's available. What the player decides to do and whether it's a waste of time or not, is up to each individual. It seemd like there was a little confusion about being locked at zero throttle. You are able to throttle up. I do notice that speed remains at 30m/s, making maneuvers more sluggish, but that doesn't mean evasion isn't possible.
...and, as I mentioned, it may be useful as a skill to practice evading interdictions.

I have found that I can often evade an interdiction attempt in seconds; this is far quicker than submitting and going thru the process of ramping up your speed when you re-enter supercruise, after being scanned. Try it...

I think you're getting confused. he doesn't need to ramp up his speed in SC because he's scanning planets, for which he needs zero throttle.
