On the side of justice

It seems that the NPC can do everything a player can do. They can be a bounty hunter, a pirate, a trader, a smuggler - everything we can do, an NPC can do as well. But there is one thing an NPC can do that we can't, be a member of the Security force.
.
So who would like to sign on to the side of all that is good. Imagine if you will this scenario:
.
You sign on to the main faction of a station to become a member of their security forces. You get a ship, naturally fitted out with the best and agree to a set of conditions. You have to enforce the faction's space, but you don't get to keep the bounties of any wanted ships you kill. Instead you are paid a set fee depending on the rank of the Commander (whether NPC or not) and the ship. So this isn't a credit farming exercise. What you do get is increased reputation gains with the faction and if you reach a certain level, discounts on anything in the station, whether it be in the shipyard, outfitting or even the commodities. The longer you work, the bigger the discounts. Plus you are helping the faction, maybe eliminating rival factions, and having a great time doing it.
.
Now this won't be for everyone but I think there are probably enough players who would like to be on the right side of the law.
.
Any thoughts on this?

I'm not sure how easy this would be to implement, but imagine the fun you could have as a somewhat shady cop...

Well Commander it seems you have a hold full of battle weapons/combat stabilisers/imperial slaves and it just so happens that I am looking for donations to my children's education fund...

I think there would have to some type of severe penalty if you step over the line so to speak, but remember, cops never get pulled over for speeding, so yes you can now zoom around the station to your heart's content lol

Oh YES please. That would make an awesome roleplay, and offer a good challenge depending on the weapon configuration of the ship you have to fly.

Awesome idea, repped

I would like that.

But make it simpler. Add a mission list under "Contacts -->System Security" and there you can pick bulletin board missions regarding system security.

These missions adds a higher than average reputation towards the ruling faction of the system.
Mission Types
-Patrol mission [Flyto X locations in order]
-Scan X ships at Y station
-Interdict traders and scan for illegal cargo
-Take out wanted targets in system
-Patrol NAV point
-Deliver reports to X station
-Transport prisoners to Y station [Interdiction by criminals that want to free their pals]

Commiting a crime of any kind during such missions would carry a harsher penalty than normal.

The rewards you are talking about sound great but I don't see how the job is different from a law-abiding bounty hunter.
I am not saying it is a bad idea :) I just don't understand what it would bring to the game compared to the current professions we have. Although it might create interesting players interactions.

That is exactly the thing I was trying to suggest. But I would like to see reputation/discounts in lieu of large credit rewards. After all, nearly everyone can make money but it would be nice if you could get lets say 5% off all commodities/ships/outfitting after performing 5 security missions for the same faction!
.
Agree on the punishment, it has to be harsh to stop players abusing the badge so to speak.
.
Rep given :D

Rule 1: If someone scratches your paint work call a code 5 and everyone will destroy them.
Rule 2: Rule 1 works for othe system security services
Rule 3: If someone is getting hit by pirates or other commanders leave it until the ship has no hull left and then respond.
Rule 4: Do not scan pirates and smugglers, but scan people who are allied to the station.
Rule 5: Scan at the last possible moment so the ship evades every time.
Rule 6: When at a RES or NAV point if you are attacking the spawn of Satan, and another commander hits you with a laser, ignore Satan and attack the player.
Rule 7: Dont patrol near where there are actual ships.

Maybe a more simple idea, not as sophisticated as yours, but easier to implement and possible to use as a simple bounty hunter: crime report network module. Basically anyone fitting this module would receive reports about crimes committed in the system in real time. Then a player can add the report in it's contact sub-panel and go there as quick as possible to help.
Being there first would allow said player to get the bounty. It would also allow players to help fight crimes more actively as they will be more aware of what's going on in the system they are cruising in.

So many great ideas in this thread. What is happening to this forum? lol

I would love that they add this.
