On which animals would you implement diving?

Diving is finally a part of the game and this is amazing. So far there are only 5 animals able to dive (plus the two hippos who walk underwater as they do in real life). Frontier has confirmed that they will add this feature to more animals in the future, so I think it is a good idea to create a dedicated thread about this.

For me, there are two animals that must be able to dive:

1) Gharial (this should be the first one to be added because it's on the base game, so everybody would benefit from it).
2) Polar bear (since they need such a huge habitat, it would add a reason for more people to juse them and create great underwater viewing areas. Also, all the zoos where I've seen polar bears (only 3) have an underwater viewing area in a prominent place of the habitat).

Being honest, I don't remember having seen any other animal in an underwater viewing area, but my zoo experience is not too big. Someone posted a video about tapirs diving and they look good, so they could be an option too. So what do you think?

I think Gharials are given and will be implementet in the future for sure.

For polar bears I am on fence, I think it is a species that is aboslutely a must for diving, on the other hand given the requirments, I still would not use them much, shame really, the new rocks are perfect for their enclosures as its very similar to what real life zoos use to create their habitats.

Personally I would love if jaguars and maybe tigers would get diving. Jaguar water viewing points are also a thing in zoos.

Agree with you both.

Gharial should be the next animal where diving should be implemented, undoubtedly. Next one is also quite obvious: the polar bear.

Then there are at least 2 more animals that are not that 'mandatory' but it would make sense if they could dive too: Nile monitors and jaguars.

Some people also mention tigers and grizzly bears. I'm not saying they are bad divers but underwater viewing areas for these animals is not something you often see in zoos (if at all). In nature, diving is not something these animals do consistently.

I think gharial and polar bear for sure. I would probably add tapir and nile monitor to that list.

As for tigers, jaguars and bears - I feel like they should be able to use the underwater feeder, but I've never seen them swimming underwater 'just for fun' - only when there are food items in the water to dive for.

I would love to see tapirs walking underwater and Indian elephants diving for sure. I love viewing points for elephants who dive - especially in Leipzig or Zurich zoo.

Let me know if I forgot about any species?

Gharial and Polar Bear, maybe jaguars and tigers. Maybe the other bears but I'm not even entirely sure on that. But definitely at least the first two.

Animals I would add diving to:

-Hippo and Pgymy Hippo (more advanced)
-Saltwater (already announced)
-Gharial
-Nile Monitor
-Bengal Tiger
-Jaguar
-Polar Bear
-Elephants (not deep diving, but head under)
-Tapirs (maybe)

I think all swimming mechanics for all animals (even say, Zebra) could use a touch up to make them more dynamic.

I’d definitely do hippos, gharial, and polar bears. Possibly monitors, tigers, and jaguar. Although tigers and jaguar might look a little awkward as they do this a little differently. It would be neat to get a splash effect in underwater viewing areas for hippos like commonly seen in some zoos.

I think gharials are very likely. The others that I think are especially important are the polar bear, Baird's tapir and Nile monitor. Wouldn't mind seeing the Indian elephant and grizzly bear get some degree of underwater swimming as well. Tigers and the jaguar are less important to me - as mentioned earlier, I have only ever seen them diving in captivity when induced to do so with food.

Tapirs look awesome underwater. Polar Bears, Nile Monitors and Gharials do also need diving. I'm not completely sure but aren't Giant Tortoises also sometimes walking/lying underwater? Another Animal I'm not completely sure about if they do sometimes walk underwater is the Indian Rhinoceros.

But there's one Animal that shouldn't be able to dive

If they ever add custom music speakers and custom video screens like they had in Planet Coaster, I will add an underwater viewing area in my chimp exhibit. The chimps won't go in of course, but you can walk down there, look at the inside of the chimps' pool, and watch that video.

XD This would be great

I mean realistically the following animals should have diving animations;
- Gharial.
- All the bears.
- Both tigers and the jaguar.
- Both elephants.

I would accept just the gharial (which, let's be real, is obviously coming after the saltie) and the polar bear. I'm hoping they don't add this feature to every animal, though; some species swim way too much as it is (looking at you, antelope).

Thinking about it more, I'd say the elephants are pretty necessary. Elephants dive a whole lot in real life.
I understand I just don’t think it’s too necessary especially with how complex it seems to be in the dev journal! It would definitely be cool and I’d love too see it! I’m just thinking about how interesting it would be to look at in an underwater viewing gallery. Probably not the best criteria as animal behavior is probably more important so I definitely understand where you’re coming from

They'll do it for the gharial, and I suspect they will know that they can't get away with not doing it for the polar bear. I think beyond that, though, more will come in time.

Gharials, polar bears and perhaps nile monitors. Maybe hippos, but I haven't used hippos in my game yet so don't know how realistic their animations already are in the game.
Diving polar bears would look amazing. That's the only one I really care about, personally.

I wouldn't expect them to give diving animations to anything else. Remember that the more time they spend giving animals diving animations, the longer it'll be before they can give us a new animal pack.

I would say gharials for sure. Hippos could use a touch up on their water mechanics. As could polar bears. I can’t say hippos and polar bears could use the same diving animations as crocodilians and may need a revamp more suitable to their species. With a lot of animals in game I’m not so sure diving is necessary as compared to just better overall swimming animations.
