Ship Builds & Load Outs Once a ship's shields are down, what are missiles like then?

Hi. Was wondering what missiles are like against an unshielded target?

Trying to work out if they could complement my lasers & Multi Cannon on my trade ships.

I did try some in a pre Horizons beta and it took 3 homing missiles to kill a Sidey (not sure what missile class though), from what I've seen in video's they're much better on ground targets, with the tiny imperial and fed fighters coming they might be really useful as they're real difficult to hit.

Did a few tests in my D rated Cobra 4 and three class 1 homing missiles will kill an unshielded Sidey (108 armour) or a Hauler (90 armour) an Adder with 162 armour is a lot tougher so each missile reduce the hull by 35 - 40 AU (armour units?) as different ships have differing base armour quality that's just be a rough guide.

Many thanks for your time. Unfortunately I can't +rep you right now. :(

As Ceekay said, they are good against ground targets, and they arent too bad against smaller ships. Anything medium pad and above and they will have a hard time taking them down

Yeah, that's what I wasn't sure about. Looks like my Cobra's will be keeping both their Multi Cannons for now.

The issue is that missiles are small weapons, so you need to scale your expectations against a small pulse laser. In this regard, they're pretty freaking potent.

very much this. i like to fit them on my slower or not nimble trading ships, like a trading python or trading Asp or a trading cutter. so i don't have to run after those eagles and sideys, if their shields are down. if you have a spare hardpoint, they are great for the first to waves of a distress call, too.

Torpedos look pretty dangerous against unshielded targets, but I'm only basing that on videos, haven't equipped them myself.

I think missiles (and mines) are getting a slight buff in 2.1 so it'll be interesting to see what they're like then.

Well I'll wait & see what happens after 2.1.

I'm launching for the abyss in 20 minutes. :D
