One for the Loremasters - why do class 1 gimballed beam lasers track so badly?

I'm referring specifically to the class one gimballed lasers here.

With a class 2 gimballed beam laser mounted on the cobra or asp you have a reasonable chance of hitting the target, but put a class 1 gimballed beam laser on the same slot and it can't hit a cow with a barn door but wanders aimlessly all over the screen.

Aside from the obvious "because it's cheap" is there any lore as to why the lower class weapon would have so much trouble locking on?

I don't think the laser is the issue - it's likely your sensors that are the problem. Try A class sensors and gimbaled lasers work very well.

Edit: this doesn't explain your size 1 vs 2 issue, but I've had decent success with size 1 lasers and good sensors. Perhaps the issue is mounting location on the Cobra - if mounted on the wing tips perhaps you're restricting their movement, making them judder when you pitch/roll etc?

Thanks. I'll try upgrading them.

I'd always assumed it just extended the range. Never occurred to me it would effect target lock

Always something new to learn
