I just stumbled across a book, from 1939, called The Dark Wheel, a "time travel novel, with religious overtones". I'm half tempted to grab it, I'm also half asleep, so I'll think about that some more once I'm fully awake.

Being a wartime author, I'm not sure Sister Mary was all that impressed with secret societies or their intents, operations, rites, codes, indices, authorships, works large or small, histories present or spectral, political linkages, methods, or the fioritura chanting of their no doubt countless scions.
