One Happy Premium Beta Backer

My Small monitor and mouse and keyboard setup does not do this game justice... *sigh* didn't think i'd have to invest in a HOTAS setup, but its looking like i have too more and more.

A HOTAS does make a big difference (I have a Saitek X52), also some folks are reporting plenty of success with game controllers too (XBox/PS).

Problem is turning with the mouse is a nightmare... :(

I have a game controller, but a very old one which is not supported by ED it seems.. might try a new one before going all out HOTAS... :)

Well, I have been sitting and waiting patiently as a premium beta backer, enjoying all the content and chat that has been banded about. But today I am one happy commander. Not only did my Elite mug and T-shirt arrive from the store but I am greeted with the news that I can now enjoy the early alpha build. It's downloaded and I have just done my first 2 flights in my new sidewinder and I can honestly say the wait has been worth it. This game is holding true to the original elite movement dynamics which is awesome. There is joy in just strapping yourself into the seat and flying around the asteroids...... :) It's like a warm welcome home :)

Commander Cartilas .....over and out !!!!

Welcome Commander, and welcome to all the other Commanders now getting to grips with their Sidewinders. Looking forward to seeing you guys in game, the solo missions are nicely tuned to get you all flying like aces over the next few weeks.

Premium beta is if anything more fun today than yesterday :D and I bet it will be even more fun tomorrow

Man am I glad we had to start in the solo game first or I would have ended up dead most of the time .

I think it would be good if everyone when starting has to at least finishe the first 5 solo missions before being allowed in the Verse™

Downloading stuff to play! Happy, happy, joy, joy!

Good thing I bought a Saitek X52 recently, for no particular reason <cough>.

Now if I can just swipe that "downloading" bar on my monitor with my finger just right, I'm sure I can make it move faster...

K.

Really happy with the alpha release it runs pretty smooth with everything on medium and 1378x800 on my i2550 laptop with 550M nvidia graphics card. It also does pretty well on my 5 year old amd x4 with 4970 on 1378x 800.
So I dont have to invest in a new rig till I het my oculus.

Game is fun but keyboard and mouse is hell. I cant get the mouse on target :(
The x52 works great. Nailed all the missions except for the mission with all the waves in 1 go. So now I am waiting for the mp alpha :p

I would totally recommend a HOTAS. I got one of those Thrustmaster TFlight ones for about £40 and it's pretty good for the price.

I'm with you on the monitor thing. Need moar monitor!

Yeah, tried using a CH Fighterstick last night without a seperate throtte: really tricky. You NEED that fine speed control. It was a lot better with an X52pro.

It's also pretty evident you need some kind of yaw control, so if I stick with a non-twist stick, it's going to require rudder pedals...

I've gone for a thumb-hat for yaw, and another for thrusters. It works well enough for me, and isn't the extra wires/cost/bulk of rudder pedals. Plus our dog likes to sleep under the desk, so I would indeed have crashes due to acts of dog and not merely my own incompetence. Which I have in spades.

That's a good idea with the hat switch, I'll give it a spin.

'Acts of dog': :D

At least you've got a handy foot-warmer.
