General / Off-Topic One hour builds.

A little project which turned out so well I thought I'd share it...

I've been wanting to fit some kind of work-light to my lathe so I can see what I'm doing when the daylight isn't very bright, in winter.
Then it occurred to me that it'd be useful to have a similar thing for my drill-press and milling machine and for when I'm soldering too.

So, with a bit of thought I came up with this.

USB power-bank case, £1 off ebay.
USB LED light, £1.50 off ebay.
2 x countersunk rare-earth magnets, 50p each off ebay.
2 x 18650 cells, salvaged from battery of a dead laptop.

Couple of holes drilled into case to attach the magnets (using screws/nuts that fit in the gap between the cells inside the case)

Job done. Light that sticks to anything metal (such as a lathe, drill-press or vice etc) and can light up whatever I'm working on.
